Hey everybody Mike Linville from Black Dog Education with this installment
of Office Hours. Now today's question comes from our friends over at Hub Spot over at
Inbound Now the question was what's one tip that you wish you knew when starting out on
Facebook and when I first read that question I got a little, well you know, a little freaked
out. There was so many things that I want to talk about, you got this and you got that,
but I went back and reread the question and it was really asking about one tip because
there are really a lot of things about Facebook and what's interesting about Facebook is the
more you get into it and the more you actually interact with your customers and your fans
and people like that online you really understand more about how they want to be addressed,
how often they want to be addressing things of that nature. Facebook is one of those situations
where it is like an onion the more you get into it you peel layers and learn a little
more, like anything else rig, that's what you would expect. But when we first started
out the one thing that I had in my mind that I thought was dead on which was 180\'b0 out
of phase with where it should have been was the idea of quality versus quantity of fans.
When we first got started I was thinking man we've got to have like 10,000 fans on our
Facebook page and you know it if we got that many people coming by, doesn't matter what
they're looking for at any given time about 3% of people looking to buy so there's always
going to be some sort of a churn going on and the more we get into this the more we
realize it cannot be further from the truth. Facebook and really social marketing in general
and it's really all about the relationship really is all about making a connection with
your customer and being able to provide that value. The whole idea of quantity and numbers
and all that other stuff is old traditional marketing, you know that's a billboard stuff
where they *** you over the head with this thing and out of 50,000 that people come by
and look at your stuff a certain number of people are going to get it. Not anymore people
want value. As a business owner you want to be able to do that, that's what you do. So
one tip for Facebook it's not about the number of people that you have, that are fans of
your page or liking your stuff. Really what it boils down to is how can you engage them?
Can you open up some line of communication? Instead of having 10,000 people that aren't
buying my stuff I'd much rather have a couple hundred people on my page that like me, they
trust me and they know that when I'm giving content their going to be able to get value
out of it. Those are going to be the customers are your fans, they're going to be the ones
to talk about you too everybody else, and those are really the people you want to have
in business, and those are your cheerleaders, the ones you want to take care of. So that's
my tip - quality versus quantity for this one we'll have more about Facebook, there's
a lot to talk about, but I wanna give a shout-out to the folks at Inbound Now, take a look at
their Facebook page Facebook.com/inboundnow fantastic information about inbound marketing
and there is a ton of it. Thank you again this is Mike Linville with Black Dog Education.}
