Announcer: Saints fans please turn your attention to the big screens to honor
today’s Peoples Health Champion Milton Cambre.
Milton Cambre: In my lifetime, I’ve recognized the importance of these
wetlands and it’s just provided so much for me and my family.
Kip Holden: On Oct. 31, 2011, Milton Cambre at age 76 launched the second
phase of construction of the Wetlands Watchers park, a 26 acre preserve on the
shore of Lake Pontchartrain. A second classroom with a viewing tower is now
under construction along with a fishing pier. Here’s a man who saw nature’s best
right in front of him and with nature’s best he was able to formulate his own
plan as to how he was going to come together, as a body of one initially, to do
something about saving our coast. Failure was not an option. And so now you are
looking a man who is saying that I can make this happen.
I may not have a PhD but my common sense will make a difference.
Milton Cambre: As I’ve gotten older, I’m more down to earth and I enjoy sharing
this knowledge with these younger kids.
Kip Holden: Milton said I want to do something about it and let people know
how great this place we call Louisiana is.
