I'd spent my whole life in this town
40 winters and none of 'em easy
The blizzard of '61 had pert' near buried us alive.
But it was a good place.
Most lived off the land and kept to themselves.
We didn't judge, we didn't ask too many questions
and we didn't mind the strangers.
Least not at first.
When they struck gold up the creek
we thought it was a good thing.
Overnight, the town near tripled in size
There was lots of energy and lots of money
business was good.
Everyone who came here was seeking something
and hopefully they'd find what they were looking for.
Our quiet life had disappeared
The town was prosperous,
but all that money had changed the place.
Greed took over.
With all those people and not enough gold
The town started to crumble.
Even folks like us who'd been here forever
could see the writing on the wall.
We didn't know what we were going to do,
but we knew this much:
this was our home and we would never leave.
