My name's Alex and I am an entry level engineer at Weber Elliot Engineers in Eugene, Oregon.
And I'm going to tell you about how I got my first job as an entry level engineer. And
you're only ever entry level engineer once so this is also my first job this way. The
story I have is probably a little unique. I got a math degree at the University of Oregon
and instead of going straight into an engineering internship I went and got a lot of other work
experience. I worked with youth, I worked in an office and I worked in retail. All these
different things and built up my resume for a couple of years. And then decided that engineering
was something I'd be interested in so I pulled together my resume and basically sat down
and telephoned a whole bunch of engineering firms in town and just asked them directly
if they had internships and in this manner I men Jerry over the phone and Jerry, who
co-owns this company actually had need of any intern. He hadn't even advertised the
position but I got lucky and he said sure send me your resume. I emailed him my resume
and he looked at my resume. He called my back, he set up an interview and the interview went
well so I got the job. And so that's my story. That's how I got my first job.
