There’s no break in the fighting between Israel and Hamas as Israeli forces launched
a new wave of attacks on Gaza Monday morning. Here’s NBC News.
“This four-story house was flattened this morning. Israel first fired warning shots
at the building to give people the chance to escape but the attack also damaged buildings
next door killing witnesses say, three people.”
The death toll is climbing and ABC News reports children are among the latest casualties.
“This morning you can see the casualties mounting in the hospitals. Some here are militants,
most are not. Including the tiny, lifeless bodies of young children wrapped in Palestinian
flags.”
CNN reports U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon will visit the region to personally weigh
in on ceasefire efforts led by bordering country Egypt.
Ban said, “This must stop. I am heading to the region to appeal personally for ending
the violence and contribute to ongoing efforts to that end.”
Is a truce possible or are Israel and Hamas on the verge of an all-out war?
CBS News says the ceasefire agreements aren’t going anywhere.
“Hamas is making some pretty big demands in exchange for stopping its rocket attacks
on Israel. Primarily it wants an end to the Israeli blockade on the Gaza Strip. Israel
unlikely to budge on that issue.”
Meanwhile, President Obama is defending Israel’s right to self-defense but the Telegraph reports
he’s weary of a ground war, saying...
“If we see a further escalation of the situation in Gaza, the likelihood of us getting back
on any kind of peace track that leads to a two-state solution is going to be pushed off
way into the future.”
At least 10 people were killed during Israel’s air strikes early Monday morning.
