My name is Alan Price, I'm the owner of the company called Cafe Fair Trade
and what we do is supply coffee machines and Fair Trade coffees, teas and hot chocolates.
We've got a diverse range of customers actually, from county councils,
we cupply schools, universities, coffee shops and restaurants.
I was looking for a coffee that was going to be different to everyone else,
basically I was sat in a kitchen with my mother thinking well what sort of
coffee can I go for that will make me look different and better than everybody else,
and lo and behold there was a jar of Cafe Direct coffee. She gave me the jar,
I looked at it and thought that's unbelievable, that just slots in to everything I want to
do. Companies like Alan's, of Cafe Fair Trade,
is brilliant for Cafe Direct because once again he is very supportive behind the
Fair Trade principles with only doing one hundred percent Fair Trade products.
"Good morning, Cafe Fair Trade. Ah Stephen..." That moment of eureka when I decided to sell
Fair Trade products I went out on a kind of one man crusade if you like to promote my
new business actually. We're drinking some gorgeous coffee in this
country and we're buying them without a blink of an eye, two pounds, maybe two pounds
fifty, you know, for a nice cappuccino and the poor farmers just get paid a pittance
for their good quality beans. They work really hard to provide really gorgeous
quality coffee and they just get paid a pittance for it which is really
bad. So when I looked into Fair Trade and I could
see where Fair TRade came from and that the Fair Trade organisation were
actually buying products and coffee directly from thees growers at a price which
is sustainable for their livelihoods, and they could send their children to school
and they could have clean water excetera, I was sold.
We like to work closely with our distributors like Cafe Fair Trade because it gives us
that relationship he is pushing the same priciples as Cafe Direct having a very unique bsuiness.
I would like to grow the company obviously, it's taken us six years to come to this position
and we really feel like we're gaining momentum, like Fair Trade is gaining momentum
and we just would really, really would like to be part of that actually.
It's been wonderful for me, I've met a whole range of diverse people and new customers,
it's been such an exiting journey actually I'm really fulfilled.
