In the last video, we talked about Habits, Øwnership, and Wanting. I mentioned that one
aspect of Øwnership is creating accountability.....
The truth is that sometimes it's hard to fully hold ourselves accountable for our choices
and actions. I guess it's just too EASY to become emotionally attached to the outcome
or have a preconceived notion of what the outcome will be. If you've ever watched the
Toronto Maple Leafs hockey in the playoffs, you'll know EXACTLY what I'm talking about.
I can go on and on about this, but today we're
actually going to focus on the other aspect of Øwnership: the weird Ø symbol
(Hallelujah)
This Ø is my symbol for Duality
Doo-all-i-what?
Duality - the dual nature in everything we experience
I'll explain this with something I like to
call "Coin Theory"
In my opinion, everything is subjective. Depending on our mood, circumstance, and past
experience, we tend to see the world through a certain lens and can reframe literally anything
to suit our current needs... How many times have you heard someone say:
"Everything happens for a reason." "It all worked out for the best."
"That's just the way things are." Well, there are two sides to every coin.
There are even two sides to the word "void"
To some, it's a concept of inadequacy.
To others a realm of infinite possibilities. Trust me, I've experienced both ends of the
spectrum and I couldn't really understand one without the other. That's the exact point.
I feel like it's important to take a step back and become aware of all possibilities
FIRST and then make a decision.
How can we truly understand courage if it wasn't for fear? Love if it wasn't for hate?
And happiness if it wasn't for, well, this guy.
When faced with conflict, we are usually so
IN IT that we forget about acknowledging the opposite side of the coin, or the fact that
there's even a coin at all!
Raised awareness is taking a step back and evaluating the ENTIRE coin without an emotional
connection to the outcome or preconceived notion. From there, I think you will
find an understanding that your first instinct isn't always your best instinct.
What choice leads to a win-win solution for everyone?
What action leads you closer to where you actually want to be? These are productive
questions.
Experience this awareness enough, and you will never forget it. Sure, you may need a
little reminder from time to time, especially when things become really chaotic, but I think
you will find that it gets easier and easier to realign yourself with practice.
Go easy on yourself. Nobody's perfect.
This is where having a strong support system comes into play. They will keep you honest,
grounded, and accountable for your actions. That's what you wanted, right?
So speaking of Accountability, I would like
to announce a personal challenge. I am going to commit to a goal each month and do everything
in my power to achieve it in the most efficient and effective way possible. That way I can
document it all and share it with you. At first, you can watch me as I make a million mistakes,
but eventually it will be great to achieve it alongside you as we make the mistakes together.
I will include this goal in my next newsletter,
so please subscribe by clicking the link in the comments section below.
Talk about raising the stakes!
As usual, if you enjoyed this video, please
like, tweet, or share it with your friends and don't be afraid to send me a message with
your questions, comments, or any ideas for challenges.
I look forward to hearing from you.
