The lives of Eagle, AK., residents are slowly getting back to normal after
being turned upside down by flooding and ice jams in
the spring of 2009.
Joyce Roberts: We're all having a good time,
it just takes us away from that depression and
the despair that we feel that you know, it's
never going to be the same again. Tonight they're putting on a dance for everybody.
Andy Bassich: We're starting to get back to
normal, that we're kinda finally having a little
bit of time to do some of the things we
normally would be doing. We rely on fish very
heavily here. And right now I'm cutting the
heads in half because we feed heads and guts and things like that to our sled dogs.
(Dogs barking)
Mary West: Well, a lot of the business that we
deal with down at the Eagle Mall as we call it,
is the Holland America, that's the majority of it.
And they were about three weeks late getting started, so we pretty much lost all of that
business. But after seeing the boat where it
was after the flood we didn't expect that they'd
be running this year. Then there's a whole lot
of extra people here in town, you know with
different volunteers, and the disaster relief
workers. Things are getting back to yeah, the
new normal I guess that we're going to have.
Yeah, yeah I think it's always going to be
different you know we'll probably mark time
from now on as before the flood and after the flood.
Andy Bassich: As far as Kate and I go, you
know we think it's important, community's
really important to us. That's why we're up
here trying to help people get back on their feet.
