At the Lyon-Bron site, we have started investing
quite large sums in the 2012-2013 period.
The first operation undertaken was runway grooving.
The objective of grooving is to improve runway grip when it rains.
Small, 3mm-wide grooves are made,
3mm's deep, with 38mm between each groove.
These grooves allow water to be evacuated
and prevent pools of water forming on the runway.
So the aim is to improve security by allowing planes
to land when it rains, without the risk of skidding
On top of this, we also have commercial aims:
using the runway at Lyon-Bron airport
in the rain will allow us to gain more clients.
Grooving of the Lyon-Bron runway is a pilot operation.
Lyon Airports is first in this field,
as grooving has not yet been endorsed by French Civil Aviation.
It has been given recognition by several countries,
including Switzerland, Canada or the US.
