The former chairperson of the National Council of Maori Nurses
supports the new initiative allowing the Council to register
Maori nurses for Maori directives.
An open invitation.
This is Linda Thompson.
A nurse for 40 years, so she is no stranger to the nursing world.
She says that if Maori nurses are allowed to register Maori nurses,
patients will benefit.
At the moment, the National Council of Maori Nurses
is designing a strategy, listing the standard requirements.
The council says a big problem they face
is that the foundation of the scheme still follows Western philosophies.
Despite the obstacles,
Linda Thomson believes that it' an achievable goal.
The wheels are in motion,
with support from Te Whare Wananga o Awanuiarangi.
Heta Gardiner, Te Karere.
