Good evening, everyone.
Good evening.
All right, I am pleased to be here. I see so many bright faces in the room. This is
part of what has been the sixth annual ready school project rollout; but also part of the
secretary of Education's National Listings Forum which is probably why a lot of you weren't
here in the room.
I think this is a phenomenal time in education in this country. It's a phenomenal time for
education in this city. And I think this city has a chance to lead the country where we
need to go.
And, and that was a huge move forward. And now to see the data trending upward even more
that not only calls back quickly but it's progress, repairs being made, getting the
support they need, textbooks, on time, that's kind of like the bare minimum. You got to
have all that to get to the next level.
I think every body needs a support system. And sometimes people have it in their parent's
behalf, if parents are still living. Firstly, my parents passed away. My mother passed.
I don't know my father. And I know that my grandmother is my support system but, other
than that, I've had teachers who've been a big support system. I'm sure everybody can
use somebody, I feel like.
That's how family works. If there was a school where you had some social supports built in
then it would just work more seamlessly. The students don't operate in a vacuum and they
learn better. If education is our goal, they're going to learn better. Their bodies are nourished
and they feel stable and safe at home and all those things.
I think it's imperative for schools to be in a strong relationship with the community
because we have to trust where you're sending your children. The future, I see everyday,
it's really imperative. And I think instead of, like if we focused more on the new type
of schools like having open doors to not just students but also parents like if we kind
of skid out our minds that that school is just a place where students go everyday to
get education, if we broaden that, then the wonders that it could do for a community alone
besides just the students is like miraculous.
