Welcome to the LaVale Library, a branch of the Allegany County Library System.
Constructed in 1975, this branch is located at 815 National Highway in Lavale, Maryland.
The Friends Group of the LaVale Library maintains the flowers and landscaping.
The main entrance to the library is at the back of the building, facing the parking lot.
A drop slot is located by this entrance, as well as a memorial garden for Galen Metzger.
A lobby inside the main entrance gives visitors access to the library, public restrooms, and Wallace McCaig Community Room.
Let's step into the Community Room first.
See what's on display in the foyer display case as you enter the Community Room.
The Wallace McCaig Community room has a capacity of 45 people and can be configured in many ways.
When not in use for library programming, this room can be used by nonprofit community groups.
To request a reservation, speak to a staff member or fill out a form online.
Now, let's go across the entrance lobby and enter the library.
When you enter the library, you will see the Circulation Desk to your right.
Here you can return items you've previously check out or get a book recommendation from a library staff member.
If you turn to the left, you will find a number of public access computers.
These computers are available for your use for ninety minutes each day with your library card.
Past the computer area, is the Teen Zone.
This area of the library is set aside to give local teens a place to hang out, read, or Facebook with friends.
The library's collection of teen books is also located here.
Racks in the middle of the room hold paperback fiction books for checkout.
These books are organized into genres to help you quickly find the type of books you like.
The shelves along the far wall allow you browse the DVD collection.
DVDs and Blu-Ray discs can be checked out at no cost for up to seven days.
Do you need a place for your school group to study? The glass Study Room is available for small groups to reserve.
See a library staff member or fill out the online reservation request form.
Just past the Study Room, you can grab a current magazine from the shelf to peruse in the reading area...
or locate an issue from two months ago to check out and take home.
Continuing farther into the room, study carrels for individual use are between the aisles of adult books.
On the left, the adult nonfiction books are organized into subject groups using the Dewey Decimal System.
On the right, you will find adult fiction books in print and on audio, organized alphabetically by authors' last names.
Returning to the area of the Circulation Desk, the library has music CDs and video games for checkout.
Beyond the games and CDs, you will enter the children's area.
On the left, a large selection of children's picture books waits for you to share a love of reading with your favorite three-year old.
And just past the picture books, you can find children's music CDs, audiobooks, and graphic novels.
There are also two computers available for use by children under twelve.
On the right side of the children's area, there are nonfiction books...
and chapter books geared toward older children.
Now, we have returned to where we started.
We hope you have enjoyed this virtual tour of the LaVale Library, and we look forward to seeing you in person soon.
