Hey everybody, it's me the HappyCabbie and today I am going to be doing a video response
to a person who goes by the name of Montez292 It is a person that I have been subscribed
to I want to say about 5 months I think.
I think five months. But nevertheless he has very positive energy.
First of all there is going to be an annotation and link in the description
if nothing else if you just want somebody that can cheer you
up this guy is your guy.
Ok One of the things that he has been doing is
he has been wanting to get into truck driving and he is very excited about truck driving.
and he has been trying to get with this one company
and he has actually gotten close. He has actually been enrolled there because
many trucking companies run their own schools where they train you free in exchange for
you working for a year and stuff like that. He has been to this school a couple of times
but each time something happens and he has to drop out
and it happened again with this most recent time.
There was like some issues at home that he had to deal with.
And so now he is like ok now well the school maybe they are not wanting him back so he
is looking at other alternatives. I guarantee you any trucking company would
be happy to have you as a driver. Your positivity is something that is just
rare. I have been a truck driver for many years,
um many years ago, of course but when I was a truck driver it is like the
old adage. "How can you tell when a truck driver is happy?
When he is complaining." But nevertheless you have a very positive
attitude however you do have one criticism
and the criticism that I want to give you is constructive
and I do hope that you accept this as constructive criticism.
When you go through trucking school you are going to be going through trucking school
for a couple of weeks then upon completion you are going to be paired up with a mentor
who is going to take you on the road for about a month, six weeks.
Some companies even go two months, it all depends the company that you work for.
But nevertheless you need to get in your road time and stuff like that and make sure that
you are going to be safe. But you are basically looking at like what
could be a two month commitment away from your wife and your kids.
And the thing is you know if something happens at home it just happens at home.
Ok as a truck driver it is very hard for a family man to be a truck driver.
And I was watching a thing from Dan Rather Reports on the trucking industry and one of
the things they said it is close to 70 percent new trucking school graduates actually drop
out of the industry within the first four months.
This can be fired for accidents but a lot of times they are not used to the idea of
being over the road. Now here is the problem.
Trucking can be a great opportunity you can make a lot of money I remember when I was
doing it I was making good money and that is one of the reasons why I want to get back
into it myself. But you know I had problems with it in the
past. Some of you guys may know.
But it is definitely a goal of mine I am going to be a truck driver again.
This is something that I am going to do. But nevertheless, as a truck driver you have
to explain to your family that you are going to miss birthdays
you are going to miss anniversaries What you can do is you can take a computer
and your family has a computer at home, I am hoping
set up skype so therefore when you are done driving for the day you can turn on your computer
and you can say hi to your kids you can say hi to your wife
but you have to be willing to make a commitment to be away from home
for a month two months at a time and if something happens at home
like say somebody goes to the hospital like one of your kids climbs a tree, falls
down, breaks his arm Ok you have to understand that as a truck
driver your kid just has to break his arm and be
at the hospital You can't just take off and just go home just
because somebody is at the hospital you can't take off because you know something
happened at home you have to be a truck driver
and this is one of the problems with so many people dropping out of the industry
because they can't deal with it. They can't deal without being with their family
at home. What you need to do if you are going to a
truck driver is you need to put in your time
because once you get two years experience that is your golden ticket.
Your golden ticket is two years of truck driving experience.
Because then all sorts of opportunities open up.
You can be, for example, a tanker driver. You know driving those tanks, well not military
tanks, but you know what I mean. Like liquids and stuff like that.
Those companies pay really well but they require two years experience.
Another thing that requires experience is local runs
and when you get a local job you can be at home
like every night. But in order to get that job you need experience
as a truck driver and the only way to get experience as a truck driver is over the road.
Because that is the only entry level position in the trucking industry pretty much.
Occasionally you will hear about that one guy who got out of trucking school and found
himself a local job. You will hear that, occasionally, but that
is the exception not the rule. So if you are going to be a truck driver you
have to understand that there is going to be times that your family is going to need
you and you are going to be on the road. Your job is to drive the truck and send the
money home to your wife. But nevertheless if you want to be a truck
driver you can do it. I believe in you, lots of other people believe in you.
and I don't want to see you give up but I also
I don't want to see you screw yourself out of a great opportunity.
So you need to sit down with your family and decide.
Is this something you want to do? And if it is not then there are other opportunities
out there that you know you can do. But nevertheless, that is something for you
and your family to decide Either way I am the HappyCabbie
And I will be backing you no matter what you do.
Thank you for watching.
