G'day everyone. My name is Daniel O'Grady, and welcome to
another Wasabicars video. I hope you are all doing well.
Today, I've got two cars for you. One of them is a Toyopet Crown.
Toyopet, the old name for Toyota. There's a story behind it but...
Check out Wikipedia, guys. And, the next car is a Toyota Origin.
They are related, very much so. I will get into that a bit later.
Very, very soon. First, my latest purchase.
Ni-hon no Mei-sha. Famous cars of Japan.
This is number 9. I'm plodding along, getting through them.
Honda City. 2nd-generation Toyota Celica.
1st-generation Datsun Bluebird. Anyway, we've talked about this in a previous
video. Sigma. Sigma?
Yeah. Data, pictures, family trees, all that sort
of stuff. If you're chasing these, let me know and I
can give you a link. You're not having mine, of course.
But, if you wish to get them, let me know. Okay, so let's jump into the Toyopet Crown
first. This is the first Crown, the RS series.
The RS series was built from 1955 to 1962. A couple of things to notice.
I certainly seen a few of these and they're all black.
Or, maybe one was red. This is the update, so check out the tail-lights.
They're vertical. I think they're called "jewel" shapes.
I've heard them referred to as jewel shape. I don't really get why that is.
It's an elongated tear-drop shape, vertical. Please notice rear doors are suicide doors.
And, also notice that the C pillar slants forward. Very, very unusual.
I guess we've seen the Ford Anglia with a slanting C pillar, but then the window is
also slanted in; the rear window. And, also with the Mazda Carol, very, very
similar roof to the Anglia. This one bubbles out, so traditionally, conventionally,
I guess. Some key design elements that will make sense
when I talk about the Toyota Origin. So, let's check out the outside of the car,
the front. All very nice. I really like the style of
these. Very, very cool. Now, let's compare that with the Toyota Origin.
This is a very interesting car. It's a car that was built from the end of
the year 2000. November? November 2000, and they built just
over 1,000 of them. Very, very exclusive car.
The price, are you ready for this? Are you sitting down?
You probably are. 7,000,000 yen. I suggest you go to a currency
converter to figure out what that means in your local currency.
7,000,000 yen... that is a pretty nice yearly salary.
It's a nice 2-year salary, for me. Oh, and I'm not even close to it; just to
give you some sort of idea. The engine; 2JZ, no turbo I'm afraid.
2JZ-GE, 3 liter, and you have a 4-speed automatic transmission coupled with that.
The colour... I'm loving the colour of this one guys.
The blue, it's very, hmmm... Demure? That's the name of it, Demure Blue.
Wow. What else can I tell you?
This was actually, I guess, an anniversary edition.
It was built to commemorate 100,000,000 Toyotas built in Japan.
So, a special edition. There you go. Toyota Origin.
Clearly they've gone with replicating the key design elements of the RS Toyopet Crown.
Again, we've got those tail-lights, the slanting C pillar and the rear suicide doors.
So, very, very interesting. Although, I'm not saying the design gels so
well. That front is just odd. The back I can handle,
the side I can handle, but the front is just a little bit odd for me.
I don't really get it. Okay guys.
Question of the day. Retro cars, you know, retro-styled cars based
on previous generations, yea or nay? Very, very simple.
If you do say Yea, let me know an example. If you say Nay, let me know an example that
didn't work. Okay?
So, thank you all very much. Take it easy.
See you.
