ANCHOR: Greivis, you talk about being an ambassador for the upcoming Pan Am Games.
You’re going to represent your country, Venezuela, in the tournament here in Toronto.
Talk about how much you’re looking forward to that experience . . .
GREIVIS: Well, first of all, I want to invite everybody in Toronto to go to...
...the kickoff party for the Pan American Games on July 11 and 12 at Nathan Phillips Square.
It’s going to be . . . everything is going to start around 11:45...
...and there are going to be a lot of different activities, a lot of different athletes, singers...
It’s going to be a great activity for families. I’m going to bring my family, too.
So, families should join us, and they should come out and really support this event.
This is a multicultural event with different sports, different countries, and that’s what Toronto is all about.
It’s very diverse, multicultural, so people – they’re going to feel like they’re supporting their home team, even though they live in Toronto.
So to me . . . I don’t know how to explain how much I want everybody to be involved and participating in these Games...
...you know, in the Pan Am Games and Parapan Am Games.
So to me, it’s an amazing thing because you know how many countries fought to host the Pan Am Games? An event like that...
...and right now Canada has that huge advantage. It’s generating jobs . . .
And the basketball tournament is going to be huge, because the teams are going to get ready here...
...as the Games are a qualifier to go to the Olympics. So everybody is going to bring their best players.
And this is another blessing that I have. I am going to be not only be an ambassador...
...but ’m going to be one of the athletes that’s going to participate in the Games. I’m going to represent my country...
...so I’ve got to be able to show my teammates from Venezuela, and my other Venezuelan people that are coming to the Games...
...other Venezuelan athletes – show them the city – and just how amazing Toronto is.
And how great the Canadians are with their hospitality, and all that. So to me, that’s big time . . . big time!
So, I’m excited for a lot of things. I’m excited about the future...
...and just the fact that I’m going to be an ambassador for the Pan Am Games.
And being involved with the city no matter what, that’s very important to me.
I mean, I don’t take that for granted. I really like...
...and I’m really thankful that, things have worked out pretty well for me in that aspect.
So, we’ll see what happens.
