LCCC's Albany County Campus in Laramie opened its doors in 2006
and has already grown beyond capacity.
If you build it they will come and they did.
Before the days of this campus, classes were held in the community
and with their rapid growth, they've been forced to go back to their roots.
The campus has grown enormously.
I've had to take a couple of classes at the university just because there's not enough classrooms here.
The growth has surprised us all. Our enrollment has actually increased 72% over the last five years.
With this pattern of increasing enrollment, we're looking to accommodate the growing population of students
by strengthening a certain partnership.
We see our growth continuing. We found out recently that 19% of our enrollment is dually enrolled students
who are taking classes at both the University of Wyoming and here on our campus.
With that significant percentage the college is trying to grow its partnership with the University
and even work towards an eventual LCCC building on the UW campus.
We think this an opportunity to expand the facilities that we desperately need,
to develop a stronger partnership with them
and to act as a model for the state of Wyoming.
It's a great place to come to school and we just hope we can continue this ongoing growth.
I'm Lisa Murphy with this Laramie County Community College Spotlight.
