My name is Kristy and I'm working at the West Jordan Curves in Utah. And we are talking
about weight loss tips. One of the ways that we determine how to lose weight is by determining
your body fat percentage. And there are several different ways to do that. There is caps for
weighing, hydrostatic weighing, weighing under water. They do cost quite a bit and there
not usually something you can do at a location. There are other ways, there's calipers, very
rarely do gyms use those anymore because of the human error factor. There also is determining
bmi with the math figure. Again it's very inaccurate if you are losing you know, if
you are actually gaining muscle as you lose weight. We use a fat percentage machine, most
gyms do use these. These determine your body fat by an electrical current. The more body
fat, the more muscle you have the more water your tissue has. Muscle holds about seventy
five percent water. Fat only holds about five percent water. So what we do is we enter in
this machine the information, your height, your weight, your age, whether you are male
or female and it sends an electrical current through your body and back up, and the speed
of that current determines what your fat percentage is. Again it's only a three percent accuracy
give or take and dehydration things like that will mess with the current and it make it
a little bit more inaccurate, but it is one of the most accurate ways to do it, that is
fast and simple and it doesn't cost you a lot of money.
