On behalf of Expert Village, my name is Jude Parry from Gold Coast Theatre Company in Miami
Beach. Today I will be teaching you little bit about the art of mime. I mentioned before
that you don't need much space. In my career, my long career as a mime, I performed under
a tree. I performed on a stage for 3 or 5 thousand people and I've performed in space
no bigger than 12 feet. How do we do that? Well, we create everything around us. If you
were a mime, you don't need to go walking across. In fact, the audience doesn't want
to see you walk. They want to see you stay still and have everything up here around you.
You could be in a kitchen or you in be in a surgeons operating room. Whatever you use
it could be right there around you and you can create the objects. It's the poetry of
having my central powerful core figure and these beautiful arm movements that I use to
create the illusion. Not only is it beautiful to look at, but it's also very interesting
because you never know what I'm going to take, use, and make into a comic or a dramatic sketch.
The art my one person can create a whole universe.
