Hello, my name is Tom Wasylyk. I'm the author of the Universal Handwriting program, and
today I'm going to show you a quick little demonstration of how to hold a pencil correctly.
This will help your students in establishing good pencil position. First, take the pencil in
your writing hand. Hold your non-writing hand up, like this. Put your thumb and your first
two finger together, just like this. Take the pencil, slide it in, push it down in about
one inch, or until you can see the paint where the pencil is sharpened. Slide it until you
cover up the sharpened area of the pencil. That's about one inch. Take your writing hand;
touch your thumb to your thumb, your first finger to your first finger, and your second
finger to your second finger. Pull the pencil up and, if you look at this it is perfect
pencil position. Very quick; lot of fun, students will enjoy it, and it will maintain good pencil
position. Thank you very much.
