Hi my name is Fred Carson and I'm from Carson's saw shop in Eugene, Oregon. I've been sharpening
tools for over 30 years and I am here with Expert Village. Here we have the reel from
the reel lawn mower, a hand pushed lawn mower, people think there not used much anymore but
we do sharpen close to 200 every year. There is a lot of people who do not like to start
the motor up and pollute the air with gasoline and noise and everything else. Now this machine
is for sharpening reels on lawnmowers. It's pretty old, it's 30 years that I know about
but they do make these for all of the high tech golf courses that are around these days.
Let's see if we can get this adjusted here. We have little adjustments on here, we have
a little wing nut here to tighten everything up. That's got a slide adjustment here, and
then it's got a major adjustment here with this lever. The goal is to sharpen this reel
and it's like most tools you need to have one edge that is a lot lower that the front
edge, so the front edge there needs to be a bevel and let?s try that out here. See it's
lower here and higher on the front edge. You just go around and do every reel. We do have
a blue wheel which is a ceramic type of a wheel it works and cuts a lot faster than
the old style grinding wheels we use to have. The old grinding wheels were a standard carbon
and this is quite a bit of an improvement. There we have a sharpened hand push mower.
Then we are going to take it off and we are going to put it back together on the other
side here. We'll get to that in just a second.
