Hello, and welcome to another VGJFelix video and today's accessory review is on the Kinnect
case for the Samsung Galaxy S4.
This case wraps around the back phone and includes a screen protector.
The case itself is made from something called hard TPU which means it is both lightweight
and strong (a point we'll come back to later). On first glance, with its plastic and transparent
appearance the case does look a little tacky but as you will see when we put the case onto
the phone, it's the wrong assumption to make. In actual fact, in my opinion, it enhances
the design of the mesh backplate on the phone.
If I try to bend or flex the case you will see that there is very little give, especially
on the rubber trim areas that wrap around the front of the phone. This is where the
problems begin to surface. Putting the case into the phone is quite tricky, you can see
here that the phone even pops out of my hands because the case is offering no flexibility.
It took me a good 10 to 15 seconds to almost force the corners of the phone into the case
and then work from there with more forceful pressing with my thumbs while trying to make
sure the phone didn't pop out again.
But once you've got the phone into the case it's certainly not going anywhere. This is
a very tight fit which means the overall phone dimensions are virtually unchanged. The rubber
trims ensure that the front of the screen doesn't touch surfaces and the phone doesn't
feel any heavier. The plastic backing on the case also has a little texture to it that
adds grip.
I felt the general use of the phone was virtually unhindered and the Kinnect case does sport
moulded-plastic buttons for the power and volume buttons that go someway to my now common
complaints about the tactile button on the Galaxy S4 not being responsive enough.
But if it's difficult to put the case on to the Galaxy S4, it's almost impossible to get
it off. The rubber trim flexes maybe a centimetre and the whole case feels completely locked
into a shape that will resist all attempts to change it. What you're seeing now are my
attempts to get the case off safely and not being particular successful at it. I would
go as far as saying this case is dangerous because it's so stiff. I even had to speed
the video up at this point because it was talking so long to get the Kinnect case off.
If this hasn't put your off, the Kinnect case, with screen protect is certainly robust, fairly
cheap and available in a multitude of trim colours.
