Hello and welcome back to the management capstone class. I would like to spend a few minutes
discussing how the grading for the class works. As I mentioned in the introductory video,
part of your grade is based on how well you do in the simulation. Often students have
questions about this and sometimes even feel anxious about the grading system. The aim
of this discussion is to assure you that if you complete the assignments and your team
collaborates in the strategy development and decision making processes that you will have
nothing to worry about. In the past the only team that got themselves into trouble were
the teams who “blew off” the decisions and based their companies success on a strategy
of hope. To ensure you are ready to make high-quality
decisions we will conduct a series of games before we go live on the final simulation
that counts toward your final grade. The final simulation will take place during the second
half of the semester. Before we start the final game, you will have participated in
two other games. The first is a team practice rounds. In this game, I will give each team
a guide and you will follow the instructions to make your decisions. The guide is based
on one of the six basic strategies discussed in the Capstone Team Member Guide. These guides
are available now in the student resources section of Blackboard. As a team you will
learn how to your decisions are entered into the system and see how the results are presented.
During the next game, each team will develop a strategy, a vision statement and make their
own decisions. This intermediate game allows each team to refine their organizational architecture
(structure and decisions making process) before we go live with the final game.
The final game will likely last about seven weeks, with each week representing one year
of the business.
