Hi! This is Gays at Play! with David and Jon... and we're here at Lighthouse Point Park in
New Haven, CT. [Intro Music - Pat Benetar "Best Shot"] We're here to tell YOU about
some of the gay-friendly beaches and sites here in Connecticut and all around the world
- All around the world - That's right, because we're world travelers. We're trying to judge
out if this is a gay-friendly beach, if this is kinda rocking or what's the crowd... is
it young, is it old, what's the whole deal with it. The first thing is if you're a new
Haven resident, you get in for free! So, that's certainly friendly for everyone. - Definitely.
- Other people pay, what was it, $10, $20? - I saw something for $30. I don;t know hat
that was. - I think that's out-of-state. It's easy to get here: I-95, you take it just to
the Townsend Road exit and just take the road all the way to the end... - Just Google it.
I wasn't driving, but... - So, at this beach I would say that it's semi-gay-friendly. It's
not super-duper-gay, but it is definitely you can be gay and out an not be bothered,
so I think that is a big part. - I mean we're out. - No one's bothering us. - No but, it's
mostly a kid-friendly park - There a lot of kids, yeah - There's the water-park, there's
the playground, there's the carousel house... I think it used to be like a gay spot back
in the days. I think it used to be a little more on and popping because there like the
showering area in the bathroom and it looks like back in the days it might have been a
hook-up spot, we don't know. But, I would think, based upon the history of, you know,
this area in general, that we know. It's really kind of kid-friendly now because they have
the water-park, they have the jungle-gym... - These things were newly added... - Yeah
- ...some years ago, this kid... they have a kid park and all these things over here
now, you know. - I think if you were out here just macking it, it would just be a wrap.
- Yeah - I think they'd come out and say 'Excuse me, sir, you have to leave!' - Definitely,
Definitely. - But, I don't see why two people, you know, couldn't be walking around holding
hands or just enjoying the beautiful sunshine... - Yeah, I don't... - Or the beach... - We
were very obvious. I don't think anyone was giving us any dirty looks or anything and
no one cares... This is a great beach for if you have a gay family. If you have a gay
family, you have kids, or whatever the case is, you want to come to this beach. - Yeah.
- If you don't like kids, don't come here because there's a lot of kiddie kind-of, you
know, stuff. They built this whole playground over here. It's like, you know, nothing but
a bunch of little playgrounds, so if you don't like kids, don't come here, this is not for
you. - Yeah. And another thing too is, if you have a group of friends you can rent out
one of the pavilions here or just come by set up, like, a little table and you know
set up a barbeque. And, you know, there's really just a lot of activity here on a normal
weekend. You know, even sometimes some of the companies in the area will come by and
have their corporate picnics here, so, or big family reunions. So, if you're planning
an event in the area this is a really great place to hold it. Another thing you might
want to do before you come here is use the bathroom. You don't want to go into that bathroom.
Like seriously, that bathroom is scary. - That bathroom smells horrible. - It's not even
just the powerful smell, it's creepy. It's like dim, shaking light, it's like perfect
for a horror film. - So one of the other great things about this beach is beautiful views
of Long Island Sound, New Haven Harbor, the lighthouse, which is behind us over here.
There's another lighthouse actually right here on the beach, which occasionally they
tours. You have to check their website online to see about it. I would say the water is
not really swimming water. - No. - Maybe more like wading with your feet, with shoes on
or sandals or water-shoes because there is some rocks and some algae and some shellfish.
- Yeah. It has decent sand. I would say the sand is... My rate of the sand from 1 to 10
would be a 5.5, pretty decent. What would you say is the general rate? I would say this
beach is mostly gay-friendly. - Mostly gay. - On a scale... on a scale of... - Flaming
to... - Flaming to - Homophobic. - Homophobic... On a scale of Flaming to Homophobic, I would
say this beach is mostly gay-friendly. [tada sound] So since we're the only one's left
here on the beach we might as well end it here and say thank you for watching! Wish
you all a happy Pride Month! - Happy Pride! - Peace and Love, Rainbows and Unicorns [End
Credit Music - Pat Benetar "Best Shot"] - Rainbows and Unicorns all day! And don't be afraid
to be out, don't be afraid to be proud. And on behalf of David and... - Jon - This is
Gays at Play! See you later! - Peace.
