North Korea is justifying its recent series of missile and rocket launches as defensive
in nature. A statement released by the North Korean People's
Army on Wednesday said the missile and rocket tests that started last week were conducted
to protect the nation's airspace and territory. It added the ongoing joint South Korea-U.S.
military exercises are provocative and that Pyongyang would fire off its most powerful
rocket if it feels threatened. North Korea has fired off a number of Scud
missiles and short-range projectiles using multiple rocket launchers over the past week-and-a-half.
