Hello, viewers with old, unwanted electronics! Today we are going to talk about the online
electronic trade-in service, Gazelle.com. Stay tuned for the advantages and disadvantages
of this site and hopefully by the end of this overview you will know whether or not Gazelle
is for you.
What is Gazelle.com?
Gazelle.com pays cash for used electronics and then sells them to new owners. The site
came about when the founders wondered, "If you can trade in a used car, why can't you
trade in a used phone?" Gazelle offers instant quotes and free shipping, and is the leading
consumer electronics trade-in site today.
The idea of Gazelle is reCommerce. It's buying, selling, and recycling electronics because
although most electronics these days lose their cool factor in the span of six months,
someone who values savings over the latest gadgets would be happy to buy the perfectly
functional electronics you've cast aside.
What is so great about it?
Number 1: You make money on your unwanted electronics. Phones and laptops are really
expensive. When you are done using them, wouldn't it be nice to recover some of the cost? The
answer is yes. Don't throw away this extra cash when it is this easy to get paid.
Number 2: It's green. Being environmentally friendly is awesome. We, as humans, have done
some serious damage to this amazing planet of ours. Instead of killing it, we should
work hard to respect it. An easy way to start is recycling everything we can, including
our electronics.
Number 3: You are not only making money, you also don't have to pay for shipping. For any
item worth more than $1, Gazelle pays for shipping. The company will even send you the
shipping materials, so you don't have to buy a box either.
Number 4: Get paid fast with the payment method of your choice. Gazelle pays you quickly via
either check, Amazon gift card, or PayPal.
Many other sites with the same services only offer you payment in the form of store or
site credit. Gazelle gives you cash if you prefer it over gift cards.
Why isn't it great?
Number 1: It's not necessarily going to give you the best payout. While Gazelle gives you
cash for your old electronics, its prices can usually be beat. Amazon and eBay will
almost always net you more money than Gazelle.
Number 2: You may not get the amount you were quoted. When you choose the condition of your
phone (Broken, Good, or Flawless), Gazelle will provide you with an offer. After you
ship your electronic device in, your offer may drop depending on any cosmetic or function
issues that the site did not anticipate. This can actually go both ways though, you may
get a higher payout.
In other words, take the offer with a grain of salt. Don't count that cash as yours until
you have it. Actually, that's good advice for anything...
Number 3: Some consumers have reported feeling taken advantage of. While some customers of
Gazelle reported great success selling with the site, others have felt slighted. They
either didn't receive the amount of payout they thought they deserved or Gazelle failed
to communicate with them after the item was shipped. This is definitely something to consider.
How much is it?
As I mentioned before, shipping is free to you provided your product has a value greater
than $1. This service will actually make you money, not cost you money.
Now that you know what Gazelle.com is all about, I hope that you can decide for yourself
whether or not it is the best online electronic trade-in service for you. Please let us know
in the comments if you have ever used Gazelle or any other electronic reCommerce site and
what you thought of it. Have a great day!
