There were things that we needed to do in a house in
order for the house to be safe, secure.
The blinds needed to be turned a specific way
at a certain time.
I would literally say, secure the house.
And I taught the boys how to turn the blinds, where I want
the blinds.
I said, do this because if you don't do this then somebody is
going to get hurt.
And it's not just getting hurt, it's death.
And now here is, at the time, a nine-year-old going, death,
are you kidding me?
Who's going to die?
There were things about how to lock the doors.
There were things about never sneak up on me again.
I remember looking at my oldest, my now oldest, and
saying, never, ever reach around me again.
Or, if you're going to put your arm around me, you need
to tell me that you're going to touch me.
But I wouldn't say it like the way I'm saying it now.
It was just 100 miles per hour.
He's looking at me, he's a little bit scared.
Like, why is this guy reacting this way?
I just wanted a hug.
