>>Agriculture affects everyone.
On a daily basis, we depend on it for the food we eat,
the fuel we use and the clothes we wear.
Agriculture encompasses a broad array of disciplines
but it is generally thought of as
farmers, tractors, cows and corn.
However, at the
College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences,
we train students for the science
of this multi-billion dollar industry.
We teach an alternative perspective of agriculture
which includes stem cell research,
water quality and food safety.
Students are equipped with the tools
to make a positive impact on our planet.
Agricultural scientists include
microbiologists, chemists,
veterinarians, plant pathologists,
engineers and other specialists.
What they have in common is that they are committed
to improving the quality of life through food,
agriculture and environmental research.
Students interested in science
are finding many opportunities
in agriculture to solve significant problems.
As the global population increases,
so too does the demand for agricultural goods
and natural resources.
By the year 2020, approximately 8 billion people
will be competing for food, water, and shelter.
Therefore, we need scientists
that will be able to help address these problems.
>>I want to be a professor in Global Nutrition.
I want to advise policymakers.
>>I want to work closely with government officials
and researchers to promote agriculture internationally.
>>I hope to earn my MD and PhD to pursue a career in medicine.
>>I hope to pursue an MD and have a career in medicine.
>>I want to continue my education,
eventually go to grad school
and earn my PhD and become a professor.
>>At the University of Georgia,
MANRRS brings together students
of diverse backgrounds who share a passion
for the agricultural sciences.
And we are preparing the next generations
of scientists in this field.
MANRRS or
Minorities in Agriculture, Natural Resources, and Related Sciences,
promotes academic and professional development
by providing a network between students and professionals
from academic institutions, government and industry.
Through this organization, diverse students are
able to find a home in the
College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences.
They have the opportunity to travel around the world,
witness the application,
the potential and transferable skills,
conduct research with world-renowned scientists
and prepare for the global market
by developing interpersonal skills.
The University of Georgia chapter of MANRRS
meets biweekly each semester and
participates in a variety of service, leadership and
professional development activities.
Members attend regional and national conferences
where they have the opportunity to compete with other students
and network with their peers.
According to MANRRS members
"the benefits gained from their participation
are exceptional and the experiences are invaluable."
Join MANRRS at the University of Georgia
College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences
and make a difference.
Be part of the solution to create
a sustainable planet for future generations.
Don’t miss out on this one of a kind organization!
