Track lighting kits present cost-effective, energy-efficient and aesthetically pleasing
lighting choices for a variety of environments. They are great for task and ambient lighting,
as well as for decorative accent lighting to complement other fixtures in a room. And
they're convenient to purchase and install, since you often get everything you need for
your track system in one simple order.
The first thing to consider when selecting your track lighting kit is the type of track
head you want. These fixtures can generally be divided into
track heads and track pendants.
Track heads consist of directional lights and spot lights. They are adjustable, focused
light fixtures that are ideal for accent lighting, general and ambient lighting, and task lighting.
If you need a focused light source, for specific needs, track heads are the best option for
you.
Track heads are the most common type of head found in track lighting kits and they consist
of directional lights and spot lights.
Track pendants are ideal for general ambient lighting and accent lighting. They are typically
used as a decorative fixture rather than a direct light source. If you want to have a
light shining directly downwards, or you want a more decorative light fixture to complement
existing fixtures, track pendants are the best option for you.

Pendants Buyer's guide.
The next biggest step when choosing track lighting kit is whether to go with a line
voltage or low voltage system.
Line voltage is the most common voltage that track systems operate at, which is 120 volts.
They often come with a lower price tag than low voltage systems, and are easy to install
and expand. A line voltage track does not require a transformer, and it can hold more
fixtures since it is not constrained by wattage limitations.
Low voltage systems may cost more upfront, but may be a wise investment long term, as
they use less electricity while providing the same amount of light output as line voltage.
Low voltage systems require a transformer for operation.
After selecting the type of head and the type of voltage, simply select the size and the
style. Since most Track lighting kits come with all the required parts this means that
they cannot be mixed and matched as easily as custom track lighting options. ATG Stores.com
