Hello. My game name is Praetor77
I am going to try to highlight the advantages and disadvantages of the AMX 13-75
and hopefully give you some good tips to playing these tanks effectively
Most of the tips and suggestions I will make in this video
can also be applied to the AMX 12t and AMX 13-90 tanks
When I use the term AMX light tanks I will be referring to these three tanks.
I apologize in advance for the low framerate but that is all my hardware can manage
I have also removed game sounds in order to make this video as understandable and clear as possible.
Some basic qualities of AMX light tanks is that they are fast, agile,
low-profile, have good camouflage and view range, and despite their awful armor,
can bounce a shot every once in a while due to highly sloped armor
Of course, their most outstanding quality is their autoloader, 6 round drum cannons
which fire approximately every 2.5 seconds, and then takes quite a long time to reload the 6 round drum.
Knowing when to reload the entire drum using the "C" key is important for AMX 12t and 13-75
but is CRITICAL for AMX 13 90 since the drum reload time is almost 40 seconds.
The most outstanding defects of the AMX tanks is of course, armor, which is almost nonexistant,
very poor gun elevation, and poor gun depression.
They also have few hitpoints, and almost always receive huge damage from artillery so you should always stay in cover or in movement
This combination makes them very interesting and fun tanks to play.
Whenever you know you are spotted, or you know you will be swarmed, you should retreat to safety.
Don´t be afraid to fire a few rounds into the enemy and then retreat.
This can be done more effectively if you point the rear of your tank forward
so you can retreat more quickly when spotted.
The rear hull has 15mm armor, and the front has 40mm armor.
Since you will normally play tier 8, 9 and 10 tanks
they will always penetrate your front as easily as your rear.
Another reason for doing this is your engine is easily damaged
if you get hit in the front hull,as you can see here
Although spotting in reverse is a good idea, sometimes you are surprised by enemies in your front as I was here
Nevertheless, the reverse gear of of the AMX tanks is quite fast, 22km/h
but more importantly, has very good acceleration
This can save you, allowing you to retreat to safety quickly.
It would be suicidal to go up alone against five tanks
so I retreat and let my team arrive to help me
Meanwhile, I reload my drum using the C key
Once backup arrives, you will see I wait for the enemy to fire
and then swoop in fire a few shots and pull back
Whenever an enemy is distracted with another target,
swoop in and empty your drum if possible as I do on this KV.
AMX tanks excel at picking off damaged enemies and flanking heavy tanks
which you can damage easily if you fire at their side or rear armor.
Here you can see how I dance around and avoid
this Tiger 2 who tries to engage me, wait for a teammate to draw his attention,
then flank him and destroy him
Notice I approch him in reverse gear
so I could quickly run away if he turned his attention to me
before I could finish him off.
Against this T34 notice I use HE rounds
having run out of AP. I currently run AP rounds only
since running out of AP rounds is much more common than the need for HE rounds
Shooting on the move is only recommended in close quarters combat
When a high tier enemy is attacking you, tracking them repeatedly can save your life in 3 ways
1-quickly getting them pulverized by your team if you have support fire
2-allowing you to kill them yourself
3-allowing you to retreat to a safe position
When firing while spotted, or in close quarters combat
you should always move between shots, moving forward and back quickly
This will make the enemy miss shots, as you will see here...
Using cover is always a good idea.
AMX tanks are great at capturing and defending.
Knowing when to get into the enemy cap and what route you should take to get there,
will make you win a lot of games for your team
knowing when to get OUT of the enemy cap is also very important.
If you are capturing base alone, and you spot tanks coming to defend, run away.
You already made them come back, and your team is probably going to get some easy shots on them.
n the other side, AMX tanks are great at resetting enemy capture, due to their high rate of fire.
Many times you can rush back to base alone and reset capture on three tanks in 6 seconds.
Another thing AMXs are very great at is killing tank destroyers.
They are probably the best tanks in the game for doing this
easily flank them, and do high amounts of damage in short time
The 6 rounds also allow you to use 1 or 2 rounds for tracking
and still have 4 rounds to do damage after you flank.
Your poor gun elevation will ensure you are killed
without being able to even fire back if you go down a big slope
as is happening to this 13-75.
Same for uneven terrain.
Normally you will want to stay on high ground.
Although the AMX tanks can play the scouting role,
scouting runs often end up with you dying quickly,
as AMX do not have the speed or maneuvrability of other nation´s tier 5 tanks
They can also be good arty hunters,
but you should only approach arty when there are no defenders near
or you will probably end up killing a single arty or none at all before being killed.
Intelligent artillery hunting can be done if you know you have a clear path to engage them
or ar able to eliminate any defenders easily
Otherwise you should always wait for support from your teammates, using cover to stay alive
At this point in my advance I should have realoaded my drum.
I am now advancing on enemies with only 2 rounds in the drum.
If I had reloaded my drum I could have easily and quickly killed the enemy TD and the artilley.
Now I wait for support from my teammates, taking cover while I reload
While shooting on the move, these cannons are not very precise
You will see that I hit one shot, but miss the other
That is why I recommend shoooting on the move only in critical situations or when very close to the enemy
Now we will review the 3 roles at which the AMX light tanks are VERY good at...
There IS one way to scout effectively with AMX tanks, and that is passive scouting.
All it involves is backing up into a bush, and spotting for your teammates
If you equip binoculars and a camo net, you can quickly place yourself
in an area of the map which is hidden by bushes from enemy view,
and spot the incoming enemies, remaining invisible as long as you don´t fire your gun.
You will notice that I cannot even aim at the enemies I spot because of poor gun depression.
Nevertheless, I am helping my team by allowing my teammates to fire at them, without being spotted themselves
Once you see an enemy that is damaged enough so that you can destroy him easily
you should take advantage of the possibility as I do here with the M6
My 6 round drum is empty, and I am surely spotted,
so I hang back a few seconds to reload and dissappear from the enemy´s view.
A way to get around poor gun depression is sometimes placing your tank sideways as I do here.
In this position I now have several bushes between me and the T-43
so I can fire without being spotted.
This is one of the situations in which AMXs are capable of dealing a lot of damage.
I have an empty drum again, so I wait to reload,
check there are no enemies around to damage me
and then go for the kill, since T-43 is very wounded.
Waiting for and ambushing the enemy scouts at the start of the match, can save the artillery on your team.
Here you can see I destroy the wall to shoot the T50-2, but miss the next shot.
Eliminating enemy scouts can be a great way to help your team and increase chances of victory.
When hunting scouts, you should place yourself well ahead of your own artillery
try to spot them as soon as possible and then fire away!
If you are spotted, keep moving. If not, you can stand still and fire.
AMX tanks excel at hunting light tanks due to their high rate of fire,
damage, penetration and high speed turret turning.
Once again I scout with my rear hull facing forward
And using my binoculars, I am able to spot this enemy scout, a Pz38NA
Allowing me to fire at him without being spotted, since I am beyond his view range.
The last role we will talk about, is sniping from a second line of fire.
When heavy tanks engage the enemy, you can snipe from a few hundred meters back
preferably hidden in bushes, and cause MAJOR damage to the enemy as you can see in this replay.
Once again, attempting to track heavy tanks (specially if you have trouble penetrating them, such as IS4s)
is very useful to the team, and willl normally get the tracked tank killed by friendly tanks.
Here you can see how I unsuccesfully try to ammorack this Type 59 by hitting the right side of his turret
but am then able to hit the next 5 shots causing a lot of damage
Okay guys, that´s about it. Hope you enjoyed this video, hope it´s useful for you.
After all this silence, I´m going to leave you with some great music and some tank destroying with AMX 13 75!
See you around! Good tanking!
