What is a studio recording manager? A studio recording manager is the person who books
the room, represents the studio. Basically they get the artist into the room. Make sure
the room is prepared. Make sure there's an assistant engineer in there fully capable
of working all the equipment that's there. They will negotiate price, rate per hour.
An important thing to know is if you approach a commercial studio and they're not really
busy and you're really flexible, they'll get you a better deal. If you're looking for long
blocks of time, sometimes you get a break that way. But, basically they're in charge
of negotiating the rate for the studio. They can put you in charge with, they can put you
in touch with engineers. They will provide an assistant engineer in most of the time.
But, they represent the studio that you plan on working in. I don't necessarily envy their
life. It's a lot of chasing people down for bills. Unpaid balances. A lot of collecting
and phone calls. A lot of times they hire and fire staff. Runners, assistant engineers,
technicians. Basically they oversee the operations. Day to day operations of a music studio.
