For over 70 years
Concordia has given opportunities for people all over Europe
to work on hundreds of farms, large and small, throughout the UK.
Our aim is to provide you with opportunities to experience our culture
improve your English, and of course the chance to save money
to help you achieve your goals in life.
One of the most common crops grown on Concordia farms is apples.
This film will give you a clearer idea of what to expect
and it might help you decide if picking apples is for you.
You'll be on your feet for hours at a time
and carrying a bin that gradually gets heavier.
This can mean a sore back in the beginning, but you'll soon get used to it.
You'll be picking slowly at first
but you'll have plenty of training and support
and if you have any questions or problems
just ask - your farm will be happy to help.
With hard work after a week you'll be settling in
and working much faster than in the beginning, so stick at it.
But remember that quality is important too -
and you'll need to be careful not to bruise the fruit
and focus on the size, colour and condition of the apples you pick.
You'll be part of a team working outside in open fields in all weathers
remember, English weather can be unpredictable
so you'll always need to be prepared for some rainy days.
Make sure you listen carefully to your supervisor
and remember that there are different standards for different crops.
You'll need to recognize what's good and what's not.
Your farm's reputation depends on the ability to supply quality produce
to the right place, at the right time - and your role here is vital.
Farm work is demanding but it can also be rewarding.
Concordia has many people who choose to return
year after year, often to the same farms.
We hope this film has given you a good introduction.
Each farm is different, and your agent or Concordia
can provide lots of further information and advice.
We're all here to help you to make the best decision
and get the most out of your Concordia work placement.
