Welcome to the Faculty of English Linguistics and Literature
Since its establishment in 1949
the undergraduate programme in English Linguistics and Literature
has experienced several changes of different names
under different administrations
with updated curriculum and training objectives.
We are proud to be the mission carriers
We set ourselves the mission to provide learners
with a solid foundation
for further studies and research
into the areas of English language teaching
translation and interpreting,
literature, cultural studies, and related fields.
We also provide learners with soft skills
needed for lifelong learning, workplace and globalisation.
At present, the EF is one of the best faculties
of the USSH and in the South of Vietnam
in offering both undergraduate programme
in English Linguistics and Literature and graduate programme in TESOL.
The EF bachelor programme specialises in three fields.
There are 5 departments in charge of different courses
according to the three specialisation directions.
The EF always pays serious attention to quality assurance.
The EF Quality Assurance Unit was formulated in 2008,
originally comprising 11 members headed by the Dean.
This QA Unit is in charge of collecting and documenting the evidences,
preparing the self assessment report
as well as proposing improvement plans.
he EF has established significant international linkages
with foreign universities and institutions.
Students can participate in field trips to foreign countries,
especially in ASEAN.
They can also take part in non-credit programmes
not only in Asia but also in America and Europe.
Foreign learners are enrolled into EF.
So far, there have been dozens of students from Turkey and South Korea.
From 1995 to 2013, graduate learners had opportunities
to get access to Australian education
through the offshore master’s and doctor’s programs
with Latrobe University.
In addition to many international talks and seminars,
Vietnam International Week is an annual event
intended to promote cultural exchange for students.
In teaching and learning, we always utilise
active methods to promote learner autonomy and creativity.
The educational purpose lies
in the quality of knowledge,
the enrichment of soft skills,
and the encouragement of positive attitudes.
The EF conducts many meetings
with particular purposes.
Academic Council meeting
aims to improve the curriculum.
Annual staff meeting reports and revises
all the EF activities after one year.
Department staff meeting focuses on
improving teaching and learning practice.
“Welcome Freshmen” is held at the beginning
of every academic year.
“Share with you” offers freshmen
counselling on their personal and academic life.
EF Internship provides students
with opportunities to widen their knowledge,
sharpen their skills, enhance their attitudes,
and bridge the gap between theory and reality.
There have been many seminars and conferences
to exchange expertise and experience,
to share achievements and research output,
to update current trends in English language teaching,
and to enhance future developments of English learning
and teaching in cross-cultural education.
Moreover, EF publications highlight
the development of EF research in linguistics,
English language teaching, translation
literature and culture.
