Welcome to this short video about
levelling the mobile elevating work platform.
I'm David Vickers and I'm a trainer at Sparsholt College
teaching, amongst other things, mobile elevating work platforms,
or MEWPs.
Ensuring the MEWP is level is crucial to your safety
and the operation of this equipment.
The controls for this operation are
mounted on the base unit, near the bucket.
We''ll be using the four taller black levers
The red levers allow you to
manouevre the MEWP
into position.
And the shorter black lever
controls the width of the tracks.
There's also a bubble level
This MEWP needs to be within
one degree of horizontal to operate
and that's shown by the green circle.
Standing in the bucket, use the control levers to lower
the front two stabilising legs
and then the rear two.
Do not set them down on the ground just yet
as you may have to position spreader plates
under the feet, to spread the load, when on soft ground.
Now put all stabiliser feet on the ground
and proceed to level the MEWP.
Try to get the tracks off the ground
Notice how the spreader plate spreads the loading
presenting a larger surface area to the ground.
On this MEWP, with the legs set on the ground
the flashing lights start.
Check the bubble is within the green circle...
and you're ready to go!
