A group of researchers in Chile have discovered a system of 20 unknown underground caves,
which could help unlock mysteries about how continents are formed.
The team of 35 researchers uncovered the limestone caves in Diego de Almagro Island in southern Chile.
Some of the caves, which were 50 metres deep contained bone fragments from small animals
and cave paintings. But experts say more research needs to be done to fully understand what
they've discovered.
For there to be this kind of rock here, which is only found in more temperate zones, means
there are sure to be a lot of keys here, which is like a treasure trove that we have to decipher
to understand the evolution of the planet, and the continuous climate changes there have been.
Only a third of the area has been explored so far, leaving plenty of mysteries to be uncovered.
