Pastor Dave
greets the children and
they respond back to him.
How is everybody today? [Good]
A little quiet. We should be happy.
Why should we be happy and loud today?
It's July 4th! And what other loud things happen
on July 4th? [I don't know]
You don't know, Karli? What, Karli? You wanna look
in The Purple Bag? Well, first can you tell me what loud
things happen on July 4th.
Should I give you a hint? Fireworks!
Yes! You guys like going to see fireworks?
[I saw a baseball game] You saw a baseball game?
That's American, too ... baseball.
That's right. Were there fireworks at the baseball
game? [Inaudible]
Wow! That's exciting! Did you clap
at the baseball game? Did you make lots of noise?
[No] You didn't? Well, some other
people probably did. [Laughter] Mommy, daddy ...
[Laughter] Yeah, they're loud, aren't they?
[Laughter] So, who would
like to look in The Purple Bag today, to see what loud and
Let's let Aiden look in The Purple Bag today.
Aiden?
[All eyes watch Aiden as he looks in The Purple Bag]
Do you
know what those are, Aiden?
Should we pass 'em out?
Caleb, what do we have?
[They're glow things] They're glow thingies.
You can pass it out, Aiden. Yep! That one's yours, Karli.
Give one to Leah.
What's on the glow sticky thingies?
[I don't know] You don't know? Did you look?
No one knows what's on the glow sticky things ... the
picture's on the front.
Leah? [An American flag] An American flag.
Yes. That reminds us of the country that we live in.
[Inaudible) Yes and the glow, it's gonna glow in the dark.
So maybe if you guys are going to some fireworks
tonight or going to a party when it gets dark
you can get your glow-stick out and wave it around
and make a lot of noise. Are there more in there, Aiden?
So why don't we give everybody two? Oh wow,
big day. Let's make some noise.
Yaaay ... [Giggles and laughter]
You can wave one in each hand tonight.
Or one tonight and one tomorrow.
[Woo-hoo!] Woo-hoo! That's right. So ...
Which reminds us that we're happy to be
Americans. We're proud to be Americans.
And if somebody asks you: Where did you get that cool
glow sticky thing ... What are you gonna tell them?
[Inaudible] With a flag on it, but where'd you get it?
We got more, Aiden? Okay ... let's pass
some more around.
Maybe you can share with somebody.
Wow! That's right.
Isn't that something? You got three blues, Leah. Leah can
have a white one.
You want a blue one? All right ... here we go. Whatta ya got,
Karli? You got red, white, and blue! Oh,
you're just American, aren't you? Little Miss Patriotic.
So, when people ask you where you got these
cool things, you know what you're gonna tell 'em?
In church. That's right.
Because we remind ourselves that God is important to us
and He's blessed us with a wonderful country.
And when people see our light, in the dark, they're gonna
ask us questions. And we can answer them very simply by
saying: I got this in church where I learned about Jesus.
And He's my Lord and Savior.
So that's what I hope you do. I hope you have a very
happy 4th of July and a very safe one.
Anybody have any questions?
Don't open these up in church. [Giggling]
Okay, everybody got it. Only when Mom and Dad say.
All right. 'Cuz we're all gonna have a safe 4th of July.
You guys can go back to your moms and dads and we'll join
together in our hymn-of-the- day as printed in your service
folder.
