Titoki Black's sacking as CEO of the Kohanga Reo Trust
was a theme for one haka team in Wellington's kapa haka regionals.
And though they didn't take out the competition,
their views were widely heard.
Anzac Pikia has more on the three teams
that will be attending Te Matatini next year.
This item condemns
the National Kohanga Reo Trust's decision to sack their relation.
So does this action song by Tu Te Maungaroa.
Challenging the trust,
saying to them it's time they stood down.
Despite this bold theme - they came third.
Nga Uri o Tamarau is a local group.
We did our best
and that's what we strived for.
They didn't do so well at Te Matatini last year,
but at this competition it was another story.
They came second.
Nga Taonga Mai Tawhiti had the x-factor.
They were the first group to break the ice.
We had very little male performers stand.
But we still gave it 100%.
And the moon truly shone on them
- they took out the competition.
These are the groups who will represent the region at Te Matatini.
Two more regional competitions will be held on Waitangi Day.
