Governor George Pardee's father, Enoch Pardee, came west during the gold rush, and built
this home in the 1860's. George was a boy here, and later, George came back with his
wife Mary, and four daughters, to live here, and then they were in Sacramento, when he
was governor. After he was done being governor, the family came back to the home, and later
George Pardee, was one of the founders of the East Bay Municipal Utility District, which
is Oakland and Berkeley's water district. He and his father Enoch both, were always interested
in pure water, and behind me, is the family's tank house. There's a well, that is, still
produces water for the grounds, and it's another one of the remnants from historic Oakland
,that you can visit, when you come on a tour.
