Nancy Grace's in the middle %uh the legal battle because our coverage
up the *** %uh Martha Moxley now Martha Moxley was a 15-year-old that was
murdered in 1975
but %uh the case has been talked about recently because there was a man
convicted
in 2002 for her death of Michael Skakel who is actually
a member of the Kennedy family now %uh he was recently
%uh let go he was let off with bail
because they felt that he did not have proper counsel during the trial
now he will of AC retrial prosecutors are still going after him
but Nancy Grace is not happy about this a little taste and the way she covers
this news take a look
with me is Dorothy Moxley
this is martha's mother hammer
are fought for years
years for justice for her daughter
years she took Arun Kennedy family
and the justice system to sing justice for her
15-year-old girl Martha while
however I really really do not like her coverage in these types of stories so
let me tell you what was problematical about the way that she covered it too
she had a guest on the program Beth Karas who is actually
a a lawyer and she mention
falsely that there was DNA evidence tying
a scalpel to the *** okay there was no DNA evidence
so as a result now Nancy Grace for producers and I guess are being sued for
defamation
UK are so in January 2012 a bad car us
as a legal commenter on the show stated that there was DNA evidence found
in a tree near the crime scene not true
they're going after them and a federal judges recently said yes you can go
forward with this defamation lawsuit because actually does
up some real harm to him right their argument their defense Nancy Grace's
defense was well he was already convicted so what more damage can we do
to its reputation when you can do a lot of doubt damage by
bring false information out there and say that there's concrete DNA evidence
now look i'm super bias in this case
because I'm are but talk show host rate
but I kinda wanna defending serious little bit not for her model in
over-the-top
stuff in I don't know what to what degree she really gets emotional in this
stuff in it of course the real problem their coverages
for bake it well okay she okay fights that's what you think
yes I know okay all right I don't I don't know but
I i'm likely agree with you on her gay up but
the problem is heard love conviction
when she was on the jury itself now look we cover a lot of stories
where we pontificate on what we think went wrong or et cetera
but were not who do we know we always make the caveat hey the jury system yada
yada
plus like I don't think that we see this is the evidence
and that guys definitely guilty raid I don't know me I I hope there's a
difference between what we doing what she does
because she's out there to convict people in the court of public opinion is
a clear difference jiang
okay so here's what happened so let's use the the case a
Zimmerman for example right we give you bad what
backs the casework we told you what happened on that day
or or that evening and you guys get to decide you guys get to speculate any way
you want
right we'll let you know when we're speculating as to what happened but you
can change the fact in this case they change the back
they said there was DNA evidence linking this man
to this crime to this terrible *** where 15-year-old was bludgeoned to
death with a goal
up club right now that actually gets so my sympathy for her because she didn't
say her guested right
and honestly if I'm on the air any guesses that I don't know whether it's
true or untrue how could I possibly search it in that
instant in that second this she said so
I'm not quite sure she supposed to do big bike
was she supposed to have read all the trial again when I'm criticize here for
research like her absolute positive the guided
by that seems to be clear from her overall presentation
so that you can let you know criticize or poor but which is supposed to read
the whole transferred the whole tried the bay and in no way to me now and the
tree there actually was in DNA evidence
so I'm slightly sympathetic to her on that particular issue
yeah if it's a guest who brought up that both information
then yeah but they should go after the guest but at the same time
let you know the biggest issue I have with Nancy Grace and a lot of shows on
HLN by the way
is they do a lot of irresponsible speculation well where where they will
already assumed that the person is guilty
and they'll have a panel people ought in bill also with the person is guilty and
I'll just
fuel this the violence against that suspect right
and that's not the way that our system is supposed to work we're not supposed
to find someone guilty before they've been convicted of anything
and I don't like that because it incites violence and I i see that happening on a
regular basis with those types of programs
and look for reaction in that clip I don't know I i maybe I'm the only one
who can see right through it but did not seem genuine or sincere to me
at all my I hear you on that and certainly a lot of people are on her
side on that issue
rate and they wonder to what degree she means it she does often seem like
she's out of a movie where they have this over-the-top character sometimes in
like
kinda cheesy movies that like rile people up while I got all let's go get
out
she does seem like she's the leader the pitchfork brigade yeah
right and i get it back its ratings right back as people riled up they want
to be angry want to focus on someone who is in a lot of troubles there ought to
focus on their own lives there something really sad about that
we can't find people guilty until they've been convicted and just to be
100% was a clear cuz I could already see some people typing
look the thing with Zimmerman was that he wasn't even
being investigated until the media made a big to do about it he wasn't even in
the face any charges okay
so as soon as he started to face charges that some people started to calm down so
that case was very different from this case
yeah and we said right after a jury trial was a low you agree or disagree
you are part of a jury in its
okay you know and they made whatever decision they were going to at least
through the trial
and that was the most important thing exactly finally stand some will say all
missus cackle as part of the kennedy could I don't give a damn about the
kennedys I have no idea if he's guilty or innocent
if he is guilty then ice hope that he spends the rest of his life in prison
et cetera but it's such a complicated case it and couldn't possibly know from
outside
