Episode 10 - Adri What is #getdowntuesday?
Getdowntuesday is a cultural movement
where we upload videos of dancers each and every Tuesday.
They show their dance talent by doing improvisation
at famous squares, locations and buildings in Budapest.
It has all started with one of our friends from the Netherlands.
We showed him the city and at every place we visited we did a "Getdown".
And there was a video we uploaded when he left and we named it something like
"Yo, watch how I get down on tuesday..." because it was a Tuesday.
But the story is already over here, because we didn't really go in for it.
Then something started in me like what if we start something more serious?
So my goal with this
(after I thought about it that it can be something even bigger)
is that I gather those people who are
practicing in front of the mirror at home and
are not able to upload a video of themselves
in turn they are really talented!
And the other background motivation is
that where we live is also really beautiful!
So it is not just that we have good dancers only,
but we live in a nice city which it not really known for everyone.
And through this we present some of those places
by dancing in front of them.
But it has outgrown itself really-really fast, because
after the 3rd video people from the countryside
contacted me like "hey wassup, it would be great if we can be a part of this too",
Then I thought: am I really going to bring everybody
from the countryside to make the video?
The other thing was that if we already doing this
why it couldn't be an inspiration for others?
..or add something for everyone?
...or why it couldn't be that everybody sees it? And there could
be something big, global, some motivation, inspiration!
But in general y'all have to know that
those could be in the project, who are good.
Now.. Who is good, I think.. that there are
two different types of "good" that exist.
One is when somebody doing his thing so professional
that his knowledge and technique is unquestionable.
And when you see it you won't have
a bad word about it, because he is a pro.
And there is another "good":
you look at someone's dance, maybe he is not the best in it,
but when he starts to dance you simply want
start nodding your head, and it is just dope!
In the first instance those people can be in the project, who we approach.
So I go up to you, and I say that: Look,
I've seen you in a battle, I know you or I don't - it doesn't matter,
but i really think that, if you take part in this
would be great, for you, for us and for those who will see you.
But if you feel like that you want to represent yourself
in any style (popping, locking, ballet, etc.), and you can add something in general
to the community or to this movement, all right than.
We will come out with just one video a week.
I thought that it is important, because you'll have a video
and you are not going to see it before it is released.
So it will be a great surprise. And also that you have a Tuesday -
(because we are fully booked) it is a big thing for you, because you are waiting
and you are the only one, and you got the most interest
and they will share only YOU.
So NO, there is not going be that there are 3 other guys
released on the same day with you.
It is possible, thou, that in one video there are more dancers.
We already have an example for that. It is my crew dancing, H.E.
...who I owe a lot, for making this project, so shoutout!
So if there is anyone who wants to dance with his/her partner
it is okay, but it has to be freestyle, not choreography!
When we started this project we had no idea
that how big it could grow. It was just an improvisation.
We shared a home made instant quick video in front of the Basilica.
We didn't really think it over that it could be like this! So first
we started making them with our phones.
But he events preceded each other, because I was like
Yeah I want to work with ali, because we've worked together already
and I know if I want to make quality, I want the type of quality
which he represents, and that kind of visual world too.
So I contacted him, who - in the end - revealed that he also
wanted to work with us, because he liked the videos and the idea behind it.
And he experienced a lot in this topic.
So he liked it, me too, and now we are working together.
He is responsible for everything in visual (recording, editing)
its just ali's work and in my opinion its very pro.
And I own the marketing part. So the innovator, and the visual guy.
If we contact you that we want to make a video with you
its fully guaranteed that Ali is going make it.
That is how we ensure the quality too.
But if you want to make the video with someone else
(I dont know... for example 1SHOTproduction) amen, we know they are great, so its okay too.
I think in foreign countries they have a certain level
that could be great to reach here in Hungary too.
And its not just about the dance, but the whole culture
and anything that has something constructive in this subject.
So once I will look around those I'm surrounded by and doing the same thing
and i'll ask: what comes to your mind when I say "Hungary"? And he will say
red pepper, matyó fancy works, #getdowntuesday.
