-We're going live outside to Karl Johan to Peter. Today the Terriers are celebrating their anniversary.
-Yes, it is Norway's largest breed dog club: Norwegian Terrier Club who turned 80 years this year.
I'm here with a bundle of fantastic and gorgeous terriers.
-Eirik Kahrs, who's not a terrier obviously, but the former head of the NTC: Welcome and congratulations on your anniversary!
-Thank you very much!
-How will you celebrate? There must be a big ceremony for the dogs or what?
-Well, we've already celebrated throughout the year really, with some events and had a party in December too,
so to day we will have some smaller festivities across the country. We are after all nationwide and will make the best of it.
It's close to Christmas so gathering everybody is a bit hard now.
We're 5500 members too and difficult to get everybody rounded up.
-So you are Norway's largest breed dog club. What do you do when you get together?
-Well, we're not gathering everybody, that's impossible, but we have district units which organizes various activities all over the country.
And then we have some larger joint events by the main association.
Beyond that the main task is of course to safeguard the breeds and group the terriers.
-Many seem to love this breed, what kind of dog do you get if you obtain a terrier?
-A terrier is an active, happy and faithful dog. So you get… good company really!
He is a good buddy!
-We have to get a closer look at the dogs. I don't know, your dogs Eirik, what kind of terriers are they?
-They're two different breeds: an English Toy Terrier and a Manchester Terrier.
They are perhaps a little atypical of what you might think of a terrier, because most people think of them as a small and scruffy dog.
These are smooth haired and different, but they show the variety of breeds in the terrier group.
We've got all kinds.
-Let's go over here, because this one is completely different. This is also a terrier.
There are 35 different breeds among the terriers. What's his name?
-His name is Storm. -Pardon?
-Storm! -Ah, Storm! How would you describe him?
-He's an excellent companion on hikes. He joins me on walks in the woods…
and he's the best friend you could have, out in the woods.
-So if you love to go out in the nature, this is a good breed?
-Absolutely! He's a sporty fellow!
-Let's move on, to a smaller type, but very, very cute.
Why did you choose this breed?
-Because he's small and rugged and can take part in everything.
-How old is he? -He's five and a half years.
-Five and a half! Does he understand that today is a big day for his breed?
-I don't think so, but then again, every day is a big day for him! [Laughter]
-Every day is a party then. And here we have this, whom I know very well…
because my neighbour had this when I grew up. These are my friends.
What kind of terrier is this?
-This is an Airedale Terrier. It's the largest terrier breed, usually called the king of terriers.
-Is she aware that she's the largest and referred to as King of terriers?
-She doesn't behave like royalty all the time, but… well yeah.
-What are her best features?
-She's a wonderful family dog as well as being very sporty and an all rounder.
Great working dog, very useful!
-We shall move on. These we've already covered, they're the same as Eirik's,
but here's one we haven't seen before. What kind of terrier is this?
-This is a Border Terrier. It's a rugged dog used for hunting in burrows as well as many other things.
They're very sporty and has a great ON and OFF-button. It's usually full speed when doing something, but then quiet and docile indoors.
-And that's exactly what you wanted when you got her? -Absolutely!
-How much research should one do before obtaining a dog? How much did you do?
-I did quite a lot, it's important to do so.
It's crucial to find a breed that fit your activity level.
Also considering how much space you have and what level of grooming is required.
-Let's move on. This is… well, what kind of breed is this?
-These are Cesky Terriers.
-What kind of temperament do they have?
-They are… [BARKING] Well… heh heh. -A bit jealous?
-They do «talk» a little. He's only five months old, and very excited.
It is a very good breed. Family friendly, can be used for everything. Love to go long walks,
and do training as well as they can be very calm and quiet.
-And not everyone is brown and black. Some are also white, like these cute ones here.
-Yes. -Why did you go for this particular breed?
-Well, initially I guess the appearances caught my eye, but it's also a very active and social breed.
They like to join in on everything that happens and are generally happy and positive.
-And then we need to see this, perhaps the most posh looking here today,
that have adorned herself with braids. This one's a good looking one!
-Yeah, well it isn't really dressing up, but more of a necessity in order to see properly. This is a Skye Terrier.
-We also have one last one here (Minature Bull Terrier).
I think we've covered absolutely everyone.
-Rune, you've got a dog too, haven't you? -Yes, I have a dog!
I'm happy when I get to hang with dogs this early in the morning.
-What kind of dog have you got?
-It's a Tibetan Spaniel, kinda like a purse dog.
-Oh, so you chose that variant.
