Hi, my name's Lee Perkins. I'm a physical therapist and founder of HandsOnRemedy.com.
Today I'm going to talk about Popliteal Cysts and why you should consider physical therapy
as your first option in the healing process. A Popliteal Cyst, also known as a Baker's
Cyst, occurs when fluid inside the knee joint builds up and bulges out the backside of the
knee. With a Baker's Cyst you will actually be able to feel this pocket of fluid pushing
out. This can happen for a number of reasons including things like arthritis but the fluid
buildup is definitely a sign of another underlying problem in the knee joint. Popliteal Cysts
may not cause any symptoms directly or they might cause some knee pain and tightness behind
the knee, especially when you straighten your knee out or bend it completely. This can be
bothersome with activities during your day; like kneeling on the floor, getting in and
out of your car and even going for a walk. With early Physical Therapy treatment, you
can maximize your function quickly and cost effectively. On the first visit, your Physical
Therapist will perform differential diagnostic testing to determine your exact condition.
You should then expect a hands-on treatment incorporating specialized techniques to help
get the results you need. Your therapist will also provide a home exercise program specific
to your injury and the training to perform those exercises correctly. Our goal as therapists
is the same as yours; heal quickly and heal permanently. The information you see on our
website and this video should NOT be used to determine your own condition. You should
seek medical advice from a qualified professional first. Find your Physical Therapist now at
HandsOnRemedy.com, and best wishes for a speedy recovery.
