I'm Rebecca Hirsch with USAA here in Colorado Springs.
A lot of people are just returning to their
neighborhood, and homeowners are anxious to start the
rebuilding process.
While many contractors out here are great, there are some
that may try to take advantage of people.
USAA offers the following tips to avoid scams.
Number one, contact your insurance provider.
We work with a lot of contractors, and we can
provide you with some guidance.
Number two, ask the contractor to produce a photo ID that you
can verify with the Better Business Bureau.
Number three, don't pay up front for any repair or
replacement work.
And finally, take a photo of that contractor's license
plate and the photo ID they produced for you.
