David Bagby: When I found fitness, it was a revelation to me, and it was the answer
to the prayer of how I was going to give back. What was going to have meaning in my life.

David Bagby: When I graduated from college, with a degree in recreation, there were no
easy jobs for me to find at that particular time in the Park Service.
So, I went into sales: real estate and insurance.
At this time, I was 220, hated sales, was a substance abuser, hated my life.
The epitome of "in bad shape."
I started going in the morning to attend aerobics class. I lost probably 30 pounds initially.
It took me 18 months to lose another 30 pounds.
And in that amount of time, learned to teach an aerobics class.
And immediately people began to call me: "Will you teach a men's class, will you teach an
overweight class, will you teach a beginner's class?" You know; whatever I thought I wanted
to do.
I've had a really great career, and I've had opportunities and doors just swing open in
front of my because of my associations with ACE that I did and the networking with professionals
that I was able to achieve through that.
There's no better way to learn something than to teach it to someone else. Honing the skills
and internalizing them and then finding a way to share that with someone else in a way
that they can accept is what it's all about.
