What we would like to do is inform members of the public and the people
who are travelling to Creamfields music festival this year,
we want people to enjoy the music festival, but we want to point out the
dangers that can occur for certain people travelling to and from the event.
Particuarly people who are taking alcohol
or drugs over the weekend.
What we want to point out is that we have a zero tolerance policy to drugs
and alcohol and driving.
We will have teams of officers patrolling around the event, checking people to see
whether or not they're impaired through alcohol or drugs
because even though people
may have one drink and think they're safe to drive
our message is don’t drink any alcohol
if you're going to drive, because any alcohol
can impair your ability to drive a motor vehicle safely.
There will be teams of trained officers patrolling the perimeter.
The message is we don't
want to spoil people's enjoyment, but people who attend
the whole festival need to be sure that when they’re travelling home after
the festival, that they're in a fit state.
That could mean abstaining from alcohol,
for a reasonable period
before they get in the vehicle and drive off the next day.
The same goes for people attending the festival as well,
there will be officers patrolling the streets to do what we call field
impairment testing, which is testing for drug driving, and also we will be
breathalysing people as they travel to and from the event.
