Norwegian prog
"You're at the crossroads, and you can either have a great fast *** with a sexy, willing fox, or you can be continuously *** by Susan Boyle for 24 hours.
If you choose the first option you're into real rock-music. If you choose the second, you're most likely into prog-rock. But this is all about taste I guess, some prefer the mother etc…." Egon Holstad, Norwegian music critic
I think it's all that *** jazz stuff that makes it painful for me when it comes to prog rock.
It has to be so *** "different and interesting" all the time.
Hedvig has a degree in jazz guitar,
so her approach to her parts on this album is a lot different from
that of me and Brynjar, as we have more of a straight rock`n`roll background.
Her different mindset and solutions produces colors and textures
that makes listening to the finished product a much more interesting experience.
My inspirations as a guitar player are Motorpsycho
Megadeth
Led Zeppelin, Rush, Terje Rypdal, Jimi Hendrix,
Jim Hall, Miles Davies, Melvins and Jon Eberson.
Of the above I think Terje Rypdal, Alex Lifeson and Jon Eberson
are the ones that shine the most through in my playing on this record.
Of my own contributions to the album,
I am most proud of my lead on "Red Flag".
But I also made my debut on the Hammond Organ here,
and the stuff that we put on the choruses of "Fire Don`t Know"
turned out to be just *** awesome, in my humble opinion!
Yes! This album is definitely your, eeeehhh, El Dooms creation, ha ha!
"I am not here of course! Ha Ha!"
No, no, this is my kitchen!!
Stooges!!! lots of great tunes!!
When it comes to prog, I guess I am a "out in the woods" kind of guy,
with the flutes and the stockings.
What I like about progressive music as a listener,
is often the feeling of being weightless and just having to cave in to what the band is doing.
When I hear prog that is really really good,
it does something to me that "regular" music doesn't do.
But of course, there's a time for everything.
Sometimes it's great to just listen to Bruce Hornsby.
One of these guys.
Hope it's him.
Other times are perfect for an insane King Crimson show from Japan or whatever.
I have a vivid memory of the first time I saw a Rush show,
on their 30th anniversary tour in Stockholm in 2004.
It was my brother Håvard, my step-brother, my mom and me who travelled together to Sweden to see Rush.
Everybody in a single hotel room,
sharing some beers before going to the venue.
And then Rush starts playing ...
I am looking at the others, we are lined up all four of us,
and everybody is crying!!
And it takes me 3 or 4 songs to stop crying,
'cause it was that big for me, one of the greatest moments of my life!
Everybody should witness their mother playing air drums once in a while
I think that would do a lot of good to a lot of families!
And Rush is by far,
next to Iron Maiden,
the greatest prog rock band on the planet!
Where to start? Prog is....
Prog is music for guys.
Only guys listen to prog, and play prog.
And when guys get to keep on keeping on alone
the right hand pretty quickly approaches the groin,
cause there is a *** thing going on here.
They have to ***.
And the experienced masturbator, who also is the experienced prog-rocker,
is gonna go on forever.
Its the kind of jerking off where you put your balls in a bowl of tepid water,
put on some soft gloves, light candles with a nice scent or whatever...
It HAS to be complicated!
So much thinking behind every stroke!
Just grab your *** and get finished already!!!
How hard can it be?
You don't need to count 12, 19 and…2
…. why would you want to bring Sudoku into your sex life?
just saying…..
Marillion?
The Grendel?
16 minutes long?
Is that what you'r aiming for Doom? To become Norway's answer to Fish??
In my opinion, prog rock combines the best of two worlds.
It takes the freedom and technical skills of jazz
and unites it with rock's in your face rawness and entertainment.
Prog-rock pushes ALL of my buttons!!
Kick *** ***, case closed!!
Now go buy it!!
