Tell us who are you? When you started?
How many people are working and have been assisted here in the institution?
Which are the goals of UPASOL?
Well, UPASOL was initiated by people in La Serena
We detected that here in Vicuña were no possibilities for handicapped people
to be attended in rehabilitation terms.
Then our objective is to reach those people here
We started bringing kids to the TELETON in Valparaíso,
but soon we were in conditions to see ourselves renting a place,
getting our equipments with our resources and through state funds.
After nine years working we achieved the facilities and implements we have and
now we have two kinesiology professionals,
and forty kids have access to a series of rehabilitation processes.
This entire place will be the machinery zone, with electrical power.
Here the cans will be processed.
Do you have a sample of the final product?
No, not still, because the machinery is brand new and are not in service still.
Who has given you advice or support for your work?
From La Serena University, professor Marco Gutierrez,
who coordinates the Design Faculty, and gave us advice and opened doors for us
through the concurs of students to inject experience and knowledge to our project
How much material do you recycle?
Without machinery and only as simple as we work,
we are reaching figures of 30 metric tons of material as a monthly average.
Our goal from now until 2009 is to reach 70 metric tons per month,
knowing that here in Vicuña with a population of 25 thousand people,
the whole of waste we are interested in, averages 210 metric tons.
What about the commercialization of your products?
We have passed many stages.
We started selling directly to those who came for it. At a very low price.
We sold large volumens without a very good commercialization process.
With these machinery we have the possibility to reach higher quantities of cardboard,
reduce the volume and export it maybe to Mendoza (Argetina)
We are studying the price, transportation and the like.
We are at a stage of commercial studies.
