Hi, my name is Stacie Royer and I'm a career specialist from Austin, Texas. I'm going to
talk to you today about how to become a guidance counselor. The first thing that you'll need
to do is speak with your local junior college, career college, or even university and talk
to the guidance counselors there. You can even speak with other freelance guidance counselors
about the different types of programs that you would need to enroll in for college to
obtain your undergraduate degree. Most people receive theirs in psychology but you can definitely
do yours in other fields as well. You'll also need to find out more about obtaining a masters
degree. This is something that will just help you pursue this career a little more two fold.
That way you can become a little more knowledgeable in this field. You'll also want to check out
the state requirements that your state has imposed on this particular position. They
might have different years and service that they require from you or hours of clinical
experience that you'll need to provide before you get your license to do this. That is how
you become a guidance counselor.
