supply needs!
0:00:07.400,0:00:10.960 Hi this Julie with Beadaholique.com
and today I wanna show you
0:00:10.960,0:00:15.099 how to use metal stamping blanks as
connectors.
0:00:15.099,0:00:18.369 What you're going to need is
a hole punch which will go through metal. I
0:00:18.369,0:00:21.999 have round one. 1.25
millimeters right here. They come in
0:00:21.999,0:00:23.310 different sizes.
0:00:23.310,0:00:26.429 So you want to match your hole punch to your
jump ring or whatever you're going
0:00:26.429,0:00:30.000 to be connecting your new links to.
0:00:30.000,0:00:33.079 And for the project I'm going to show you
how to do here which is a making earring. You're
0:00:33.079,0:00:36.570 going to need a couple pairs of pliers to
open up some jump rings.
0:00:36.570,0:00:38.880 And you're going to need a pencil.
0:00:38.880,0:00:43.300 So I have a bracelet already completed
here and you see I've actually just taken
0:00:43.300,0:00:46.450 square blanks. They have no holes in them
to begin with,
0:00:46.450,0:00:48.530 taken a hole punch,
0:00:48.530,0:00:53.210 punched the hole where I wanted it for
my connectors which are jump rings in
0:00:53.210,0:00:54.770 a chain right here.
0:00:54.770,0:00:58.690 I used them as links to make an actual
bracelet form and then I was able to
0:00:58.690,0:01:02.010 apply some dominos with eproxy stickers
on top of them.
0:01:02.010,0:01:05.630 That was actually a really quick and easy
project. So I want to show you another really quick
0:01:05.630,0:01:06.920 and easy project
0:01:06.920,0:01:11.400 which is gonna take some metal stamping
blanks and turn them into connectors.
0:01:11.400,0:01:13.299 So I have two blanks here.
0:01:13.299,0:01:15.900 You can see they have some texture on them.
0:01:15.900,0:01:19.229 Here's what they look like to begin with.
This is a smaller size but you can see it's
0:01:19.229,0:01:20.700 smooth and shiny.
0:01:20.700,0:01:23.499 I got the texture by taking a chasing
hammer
0:01:23.499,0:01:28.259 and just pounding it actually. Just making
little divots and marks until it have an
0:01:28.259,0:01:29.850 all over texture.
0:01:29.850,0:01:32.130 We actually have another video by beadaholique.com
on Metal Blanks". You can see how to do that
0:01:36.210,0:01:37.780 but for this project
0:01:37.780,0:01:41.370 I would like to make this earring right
here.
0:01:41.370,0:01:44.130 What you need for this earring is you're
gonna need a
0:01:44.130,0:01:46.419 25 millimeter stamping blank
0:01:46.419,0:01:50.329 and an 18 millimeter stamping
blank with no holes in them.
0:01:50.329,0:01:53.249 I've actually then got two quick links
0:01:53.249,0:01:55.870 which are these great little links
right here.
0:01:55.870,0:01:59.870 I'm going to apply them on top of my
metal stamping blanks to add some
0:01:59.870,0:02:01.730 interest.
0:02:01.730,0:02:06.900 I have a Swarovski rhondelle crystal. I'm
going to hang it as a drop.
0:02:06.900,0:02:11.169 I've got four jump rings, 7mm and
then I also have
0:02:11.169,0:02:13.309 a little copper earring hook.
0:02:13.309,0:02:17.119 So if you're going to go ahead and use a
stamping blank with no holes as a
0:02:17.930,0:02:19.349 you need to punch some holes in it.
0:02:19.349,0:02:23.519 To do that you're gonna want to mark
first where you want your holes on the
0:02:23.519,0:02:24.459 back side.
0:02:24.459,0:02:25.899 Take a pencil
0:02:25.899,0:02:30.149 and I can actually look closely. I
can make a line and if I don't like
0:02:30.149,0:02:33.729 where my line is, I can just rub it off with
my finger.
0:02:33.729,0:02:37.539 So I want to go ahead and figure out
about
0:02:37.539,0:02:38.629 the center.
0:02:38.629,0:02:41.180 You could use a ruler and measure this
0:02:41.180,0:02:43.479 or you can just eye ball it.
0:02:43.479,0:02:45.449 So I made a centerline.
0:02:45.449,0:02:47.779 Now for my particular project
0:02:47.779,0:02:52.029 you see how on this one that the quick link
just rest on top of the
0:02:52.029,0:02:54.389 jump ring and it looks like
0:02:54.389,0:02:56.329 it's a solid piece right here.
0:02:56.329,0:03:00.329 So I don't want to punch down here
otherwise it would drop my link and it would
0:03:00.329,0:03:03.569 sit down here. So I want it to be right up
against the edge.
0:03:03.569,0:03:05.430 So to achieve that
0:03:05.430,0:03:07.959 I'm going to put my quick link on top
0:03:07.959,0:03:14.329 line it up so it's even.
0:03:14.329,0:03:17.479 Just going to make a little mark
0:03:17.479,0:03:21.069 on either end that's where I want to
punch my hole.
0:03:21.069,0:03:24.359 Take your hole punch
0:03:24.359,0:03:27.459 it might be a little hard to catch on camera
but I have
0:03:27.459,0:03:30.539 a mark where I want to punch this.
0:03:30.539,0:03:32.259 Going to place the link
0:03:32.259,0:03:34.569 between the punch part and the base
0:03:34.569,0:03:38.749 and I'm just going to squeeze.
0:03:38.749,0:03:41.569 There we go.
0:03:41.569,0:03:46.209 Pull it out. We got a great hole right
there. Go to the other side
0:03:46.209,0:03:46.940 again
0:03:46.940,0:03:53.940 line it up with my marker. Punch.
0:03:57.079,0:04:00.389 I'm going to do the exact same thing for my
larger.
0:04:00.389,0:04:03.419 Again turn it upside down.
0:04:03.419,0:04:06.609 Find your approximant center point.
0:04:06.609,0:04:09.009 That looks pretty good to me.
0:04:09.009,0:04:11.199 Lay the link on top,
0:04:11.199,0:04:13.399 the quick link I should say.
0:04:13.399,0:04:15.859 Make sure it's even
0:04:15.859,0:04:22.859 make a little mark
0:04:23.179,0:04:25.789 punch
0:04:25.789,0:04:32.509 go to the other side
0:04:32.509,0:04:37.680 punch. Now I'm going to take my finger, rub
off my pencil mark.
0:04:37.680,0:04:39.159 Now all I have to do
0:04:39.159,0:04:44.110 is connect these.
0:04:44.110,0:04:45.430 So first
0:04:45.430,0:04:51.040 I'm going to open up a jump ring.
0:04:51.040,0:04:54.290 Put a quick link on
there. I want the textured surface of my
0:04:54.290,0:04:55.669 stamping blank
0:04:55.669,0:04:57.759 to be in the forefront.
0:04:57.759,0:04:59.869 Go ahead and put that link on there.
0:04:59.869,0:05:03.389 At this time I'm going to take my other
jump ring. It's going to be the top of
0:05:03.389,0:05:04.140 my earring.
0:05:04.140,0:05:08.850 Put it on there as well.
0:05:08.850,0:05:11.500 Close the jump ring back up.
0:05:11.500,0:05:16.770 I'm going to switch hands. I like working
with the bent nose pliers in my right hand
0:05:16.770,0:05:23.499 again open the jump ring.
0:05:23.499,0:05:25.490 Thread it to the other side.
0:05:25.490,0:05:28.779 Put the blank on here first
so they match.
0:05:28.779,0:05:33.379 One quick link
0:05:33.379,0:05:39.539 close it backup.
0:05:39.539,0:05:42.150 We're just using these as connectors
0:05:42.150,0:05:45.590 open your forth jump ring
0:05:45.590,0:05:48.270 and we can actually going to use this jump
ring as a bail
0:05:48.270,0:05:49.830 for our crystal.
0:05:49.830,0:05:53.400 It slides in very easily
0:05:53.400,0:05:55.539 just connect that into
0:05:55.539,0:06:02.539 the hole punch in your blank
0:06:02.979,0:06:06.699 close it backup.
0:06:06.699,0:06:11.419 We just need to go the top and attach our
earring hook.
0:06:11.419,0:06:14.669 You can either open the jump ring or you can
open the little loop at the base in
0:06:14.669,0:06:19.949 the earring hook.
0:06:19.949,0:06:26.949 Slide it on. Make sure it's facing in the
right direction.
0:06:30.789,0:06:34.919 Close it back up.
0:06:34.919,0:06:36.020 And there you go.
0:06:36.020,0:06:39.269 We have a very easy and pretty set of
earrings
0:06:39.269,0:06:40.249 which we made
0:06:40.249,0:06:43.219 by converting metal stamping blanks into
links.
