has
well today is the big day wisconsin is gonna help us to figure out frankly i
think for the national election as well
whether outstanding your opponent seven to one
in a race that is already fairly tight
is a strategy that will push somebody over the top
if out spending
you know if if if scott walker out spending senator tom there at seven to
one
in the state wisconsin
pushes scott walker over the fifty percent mark
more you've got eight deg citizens united problem here in the united states
any calls a staff reporter with knowledge on snag a zine
mother jones dot
to do do dot com of course
and uh... into a comeback in program
particularly prompt good to have you with us
uh... of here in wisconsin right now
i remember walking where are the actions that
okay we've had two reports so far from
madison what's going on the walkie
well to keep it
i democrats are are squeezing every last vote that they can out of this medieval
walkie
traditionally is a
uh... ha booked out democratic important elections and tom barrett
in a race in which turnout is going to be different for democrats the you know
it's hyatt rather they didn't have a uh...
and they can get
milwaukee evil milwaukee appeared for them and they need to uh...
video walkie to q should get to the polls
you know in in huge numbers in your presidential
near presidential turnout numbers city there at five oh being
scott walker today
right now you know the conventional wisdom that i'm hearing
x i'm hearing two different things went from from the pun dents uh... one is
that if we see turnout in wisconsin the resembles the two thousand eight
election were brock obama swept the state
this and tom barrett is the governor
it's on the other hand we see turnout
like the two thousand ten election where
basically
the republicans showed up at about the same hours they didn't it does make but
the democrats just didn't show up for perot systems show up you know and in
large numbers
scott walker wins at that's one form of conventional wisdom and i'm hearing the
other is you know over everybody's point me in trade dot com which is the irish
betty inside
which is almost never wrong about elections
and they're saying right there at their you right now you can buy bats
on barrel our current and so the odds that they're getting in ninety three
point six percent the walker
to uh... uh... what would that be five point four percent for barrett
uh... or six point four percent i guess uh... that's
pretty those are pretty grim numbers and i a m i'm bummed as one or what you're
hearing there in wisconsin
quickly in trade numbers
he'll akki bills are a reflection of the fact that the car walker has not
trailed in a poll all year
in the real clear politics or never kept him up by a little over six percent
point
it barbaric bob
because of the closest tom barrett has
dot com is you know two or three percentage points
uh... give or take a few any other if he did it
the typical dead heat
but you know i mean in trade is
is reflecting
essentially what you know but the point is that with the public sentiment has
been
on you know you've gotta keep in mind as well that
this is the
thurday
gubernatorial recall election american history
rated something was some president another piece of it is it is almost
unprecedented
you know i i i think
you exorbitant rado implicated all bets are off
because
this is but the
such an aberration here
now with the um... the uh... the the the first pick of conventional wisdom
that you mentioned
interestingly going into this recall election
the the energy in the number of people the percentage of people who
say that they were absolutely connect
go out and bonus recall was actually a bit higher on the republican side now
we're talking the difference between in the ninety percent range
you know in the mid eighties or the
or the lowest report sent ranger for democrats in the nineties republican
there i think when you hear people today
democrats need massive turnout
uh... if they're hopes to have a champ
industry call election i think that's a reflection of those polls which show
that you know that
the the bit of room for perot
is on the democratic side in milan in in a really at this rate is really only
about
two to four percentage point those undecided voters too
you know are still scratching their heads going into today's election year
they may make up their mind in the voting booth today united but the more
those people that you get out the more dependent for decided that you get out
you know i think that that bodes well
for the democrats you know it's just talking that the waiver folks a few
minutes ago and
you know about it either charter porter to they're not going to pay anything
that's particularly uh... damaging to their cause but
you know they're they're all document and they're all
birthday
day the numbers that they're seeing coming in from around the state not just
eight county but for the liberal heart of wisconsin or milwaukee
other places via federal constant part of the rhetoric roughly uh... there were
there there that they pay their seem great numbers
mhm so
by no means that day
uh... hedging their are are they manage expectations or are they are distorting
that
a potential off you know they are
they're very very confident confident at
as i've heard them uh... in the past
very interesting you have there been any surprises in the last twenty four hours
since that is the best changes strategy by either buried or walker anything like
that
no doubt about it
you know uh... walker repented of their walker event last night here in
milwaukee
what walker has
stuck to his
message stuck to his talking point
uh... you know it just in it
in incredibly disciplined way
the and almost every
uh... lying or old every uh... you a bit of stump speech that he has with the you
know
some variation of removing wisconsin forward we can't move wisconsin backward
i'm taking wisconsin forwarded that had been his message in the past month if
not more
defect to end and bear it
act on that day barrett has
scott walker started the war in the state bear habitat scott walker
uh... lied to the people of wisconsin with his attack on
collective bargaining rights for public employees public employees unions
you know he ki hit on the same kinds of themes
that he has been for the path but there really was just sort of a
of buckling down now you know we have heard a few up a bit of knuth here and
there you know uh... a robo call going out
telling people who signed petitions to recall walker that they don't have to
vote
uh... which is obviously not true
but there's been some effort to counter that misinformation
but um... unit but the two candidates have
and stuck to their guns here they have
it hammered away on the famed phen-fen
uh... now it in the voters' hands what are the expectations four returns
tonight the polls or
was and said isn't inclined the no
local time we should be nine o'clock eastern us time yup so uh...
the is is expected that will know the results within five minutes urls is
expected that it's gonna be the
alike and some previous elections soon o waukesha county takes three hours to
come in or maybe a day and i
half in any any sense of them
will be the
veep official
forecasted turnout
in fifty to fifty five percent of of voting age adult which is really huge
the
bill religious or several
sort of voting
reporter
elections reporter you'd call that more quote more elections jamin how big it
was
uh... i don't think that
this is going to be
in election that we will know
soon after the polls close i think
uh... my gut tells me that the thing will go
pretty well into the night
comfortable side
have
uh... lawyer dop
and gone through all the steps
they'd need to take for reaped cooper recount
its time
at if it's right right
uh... if it it if the the final margin is within about a half a percentage
point
uh... and automatic state-funded recall
in return for a different retiree hats and recounted history we've had people
call in the program in the one saying that the walker campaign is offering a
hundred dollars to put a signing a r d that they've been buying front yards
another saying they got a little call today telling him not to forget the vote
tomorrow wednesday and he's sending us a clip of that um... i'd just yeah i
wonder if these kind of things like to take some time i guess for all the
stories to get out of committee will interesting
fire any crawl with mother jones magazine motown's dot com on the ground
in wisconsin any thank you for being with us
