Hi, I'm Tristan McCauley from Lucky Seven Tattoo, and I'm here to talk to you a little
bit about using gold in piercings. I've had a lot of people ask me, over the last little
while, "can you use gold in piercings?" and the answer to that is "Yes." As long as it's
of a high quality. You want to try to avoid any of the gold-plated jewelry, because after
a while, it might wear down, you might have a reaction to some of the nickel and the underlying
metals. You want to stick to pure 14 or 18 karat gold for your piercings. Anything less
than that can tarnish, it can cause problems, you can have a reaction to the nickel and
the underlying metals. You want to basically look for the, the mark on the back, there
should be a small little inscription on the back of it, it says 14 or 18K. That's what
you're looking for when you're looking to buy jewelry. And don't be afraid to ask the
retailer if it is 14 or 18 karat gold, don't be afraid to ask if it's plated, if they have
a problem telling you that, go somewhere else to buy your jewelry because it's probably
not that good. But, to answer the question, "yes, you can pierce with gold jewelry."
